Matang is NOT like Semenggoh, where you can observe the Orang Utans in Nature. It is a rehab center. There are also other animals. Once cured and/or trained, some animals can go back to Nature, some can not.

Matang is a rehabilitation centre for a number of wild animals which need to be looked after, mainly those that have been kept as pets, star attractions being orangutans and sun bears. The people who run this centre are well-meaning and want to do good...More

Matang Wild life center is just like another zoo, however located in a very isolated place and in the midst of jungle. But the tracking experience with breathtaking because it is surrounded by jungle along the trail. Only caution is that the Orang Utans are...More

This is not actually a zoo, as some reviews say. It is very well maintained. You get to walk into the woods, heard they have some camping, hiking and swimming areas too. We saw many kinds of crocodiles, birds and cats. Some orangutans are caged....More

Was a good hour drive form the city. It is essentially a mini zoo with a focus on orangutan rehabilitation. Probably only way you will see hornbills, leopard, sun bears etc up close. Was sad to see committed people and caged animals in one area...More

This centre is not a zoo and it pains me when reviewers call it that. It is clear they do not understand the work being done here. It is a centre for animals that are rescued, confiscated or sent here, most are older, sick or...More

Matang is a small wildlife centre. Certainly not a destination to spend more than a few hours at. There is no restaurant or cafetaria. We went as a day trip and spent about 3 hours there.
