They are NOT natural springs, they fill a bath tub for you to sit in. Butterfly garden big disappointment, saw more butterflies outside. If you do a tour and they want to do this bit first, DONT as you will run out of time to do national park and botanical gardens. - avril wNorthamptonshire, United Kingdom128 contributionsA good place for a stopoverWe chose to stay in the hotel adjacent to the hot springs for three nights to have a little break on our Borneo adventure. It was a good decision as the hot springs were a great place to relax. The 50 ringgit entrance/park conservation fee covered us for three days and, as well as the pools, we enjoyed visiting the butterfly park, the waterfall and the canopy walk (quite a challenge in the heat but felt very proud once we had completed it). We ate in the Rainforest Restaurant at least twice a day as the food was lovely and the service excellent.Visited June 2023Written 24 June 2023

It took us 1.5 hours from Desa Dairy Farm to Poring Hot Springs. The parking area was huge. Hence, it was not difficult to find a parking spot. There was an entrance fee of RM3.00 per person issued to visitors. We were led to a green screen & told to pose 3 times before going in. On the way to the public hot springs, we saw a poster stating that there were 2 blooming Rafflesia flowers at the Research & Education Centre. It was our lucky day & I proposed that we catch it.
We arrived at the public hot springs area after 10 minutes of walking. There were many booths filled with hot springs. The ones in rectangular shape with a roof over our heads were for soaking of feet while those in a round booth were used for full body submission. My friend & I went to the one which was for feet soaking. We took off our shoes & dipped our feet into the hot springs. The water was hot but our body acclimatised shortly. Unfortunately, my friend said that it was too hot for her & left shortly to explore the place for her project. I stayed in & enjoyed the experience for half an hour before my friend returned & told me it was time to go.
Then, we joined my partner who was sitting under a tree, waiting for us with tickets to the Research & Education Centre to see the blooming Rafflesia flowers. Each ticket costs RM10.00. My partner & I decided to walk to the Research Centre while my friend walked back to drive the car to the Centre.
We found our way to the Research Centre’s guard house & registered ourselves before entering. The helpful security guard or gatekeeper whose name was Tisun told us where to find the Rafflesia flowers. Then, our friend arrived with the car. Suddenly, the resident hornbill landed & perched on top of our car! My friend who was in the car became frantic while my partner & I shrieked & started taking photos. It was a little chaotic, to say the least! Fortunately, Tisun got the hornbill to fly away & my friend was able to drive on & park.
The 3 of us then walked to a platform to watch a group of deer busy eating grass. We stood there for a few minutes before leaving for the location of the Rafflesia flowers. The hornbill followed us again & looked as if it didn’t want us to see the flower. We ignored it & went inside the private garden area.
We saw 2 Rafflesia flowers. The 1st one was close enough for us to take a photo with it. However, it was already dying. The flower is known to bloom for only 3 to 5 days. The 2nd one was further but had a better colour & its stench was worse.
Known as the state flower of Sabah & the biggest flower in the world, it can only grow in Malaysia, Thailand, Indonesia & Philippines. There are 28 known species & Malaysia has 7. The Rafflesia flower has no stems, leaves or roots. It is a red spotted 5-petalled leathery flower whose diameter can be more than 100 cm. It can also weigh up to 10 kg. As a parasitic & carnivorous plant, it has a bowl-like centre with thorns that swallows flies & insects for sustenance. It emits a smell of rotting meat to attract its prey which is the reason that it’s known as the corpse flower.
Having seen the 2 Rafflesia flowers, my partner walked to the Orchid Conservation Centre while my friend & I went back to see the deer in the wild. Since my friend was tired & a little edgy from the heat, she decided to wait for my partner & me in the car. I went in to join my partner & left her behind.
The Orchid Conservation Centre has 1200 species of orchids. It has the largest collection of orchid species endemic to Sabah. You can also see the most expensive orchid in the world, the Rothschild Slipper Orchid. It is rare & takes 15 years to bloom. There were plenty of orchids to see & marvel at. Some were blooming while others have not started.
I spent less than 15 minutes inside as I didn’t want my friend to wait long in the car. Besides, my partner had missed a footing & pulled a muscle. Before leaving the place, we saw a lantern bug on one of the trees. I also stopped by the green screen area to take a look at our photographs with 3 different poses. I felt that it didn’t warrant the price of the photographs & did not buy them.
In short, Poring Hot Springs is a must-visit destination as it has many interesting places of interest. There is also basic accommodation should you one to stay in the area.

My and my dad luckily haven’t come to Poring on purpose but were already around otherwise I’d have been even more disappointed 😅
Basically you pay quite a lot for the entrance fee , then for the parking. Once we entered we have been told the Canopy walk wasn’t available after 10AM, so our tickets included a poor butterfly garden and a tiny shared pool where to dip ur feet if u find a place to sit.
Two concrete small swimming pools packed with screaming kids are included too; if you want to experience the “private “ small bathtub you need to pay a part. You can stay 3hrs but please note it took us 2hrs to fill the tub… the sulphuric water is hot and pleasant but this only positive side will be quickly forgotten when the numerous families next to you start unpacking their lunch boxes all around you and using this place as a shared bathroom, shampooing from head to toe.
It is a clear tourist trap, not even veiled:)

Not what I expected the hotspring to be... You need to fill up water from the taps to dip your body in it. There is one section for foot bath.
Toilet is clean with shower room. Swimming pool with a lifeguard available on site. However the drive was not very worth it for us.

There is a lot to do at Poring - it's not just hot springs. There is a brilliant canopy walk which is scary but worth the effort. The butterfly garden is interesting. There is a good restaurant by the swimming pool. You could spend a lot of time here!

Long drive from KK to hot springs. Enjoyed time in the spa bath but maybe not worth the journey time on difficult roads

Must visit hot spot if you are visiting Kundasang area... Tree Top walking is must try for everyone. My dad is 74 years old with good health, he managed to complete the walk. The hot spring is nice to relax after the walk. Clean facilities & convenient for families with kids /elderlies ... it just that Malaysia weather is very hot & got into hot spring is even hotter .. but there are room temperature small pools for cooling too... it’s definitely good to try it out.

I know it's free if I have a national park admission ticket. Am I right?
Is it possible to have a ticket the day before? because it is a two day trip.

I cannot walk uphill without getting out of breath due to a medical condition. Can the canopy and the springs be accessed by car.

There is a parking area at the park but you definately have to walk through the forest to get to the canopy tree.
just walk slowly, get yourself a good pair of shoes and drink lots of water. Good luck

Hi!
How did you get from Kinabalu national park to Poring hot springs? I'm more interested in the canopy walkway and the Rafflesia garden outside of Poring.
Thanks!

We booked a guide through Amazing Borneo Tours to take us to Kota Kinabalu Park and Poring. We also did the canopy tour and the guide found us a Rafflesia in bloom on private property (he got the driver to ask around as to where one was in bloom). It was well worth having the tour organized...our guide (Reynold Miji) was amazing!

How long does the canopy walk take
TeeTham
Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia70 contributions
An average will be 15 to 20 minutes for photo stops and waiting for those in front to clear the line. Do allocate 10 minutes to walk from the hot spring to the ticketing counter and another 10 minutes to trek up to the starting point which is a hut with a staircase.
