Kota Kinabalu City Bird Sanctuary or KKCBS is a haven for wildlife right in the heart of the city. This 24-hectare patch of mangrove forest is the only remaining patch of an extensive mangrove forest that once existed around the coastal town of Kota Kinabalu.

Went for a quick visit in the morning before departure, muddy and barely saw any birds. Might be the season but I wasn't impressed. Then again, tickets were cheap.

I was saddened and angered by the bird sanctuary in KL. Even on Lonely Planet it is advertised as a great place where birds fly free in a massive jungle-like environment covered with a net. However, I saw very few birds flying free (yes the...More

Not a place to put on your must visit list as it is not a great attraction. Maybe with funding and some management it may amount to a reasonable attraction but as it is No. You can relax and walk about the area but do...More

Quite peaceful, but very green/brown all the way round (the nature of the place!). Don't expect to see much, especially if, like me, you are followed in by a Chinese tour group who felt the need to make as much noise as possible and scare...More

We walked here from KL station. It's about 45 minutes walk up a hill, so bring water. The entrance fee is suprisingly expensive, but includes a show in the afternoon at the open air auditorium. There are a lot of birds in cages and loads...More
