There are total of 9 of us took this water spot where 3 kids age from 8 to 10. The other two age at 12 years old. None of them has experience it before and so eagerness to face the challenge. Due to risk concern, we have chosen Kiulu River as testing ground since the current is more suitable for beginner .
All of us enjoyed the trip which took approximately an hour to complete. It will be fun if you went in group. Enjoy !!!

For beginners this is a good start. Most part of rivers are calm...The rapid is not that fast enough and the rocks are generally ok...It is good for family with young kids for them to try it out...

We booked this half day trip via the tour guide in our hotel for myself, my partner, and our 2 children (6 and 4)...can't remember how much it cos though, sorry! I have to say I was initially disappointed as our guide / instructor had limited English and was not very communicative, however, he was always in total control of the boat, so we always felt safe and looked after.
Yes this is more gentle then Padas, but is perfect for beginners or a family. It was a beautiful trip with some exciting bits and the kids loved it. Managed to burn my legs though, so please remember sun block! We stopped half way through for a rest, we swam in the river and chased butterflies. Then we continued our journey down the river. The water level was low so we did have to get out a number of times so the instructor could help us move down the river. But all in all lots of fun and would recommend.
After our ride we had some lunch then returned to our hotel, the food was simple, but good.

It was the most boring experience in Sabah, very disappointing. The adrenaline level you get during this so-called rafting is about one you have while floating a swimming pool on an inflated bed. The guides try desperately to entertain tourists, but splashing muddy water to each others' faces or swimming in the same (cold as hell) is not worth 170 ringgits.

Had a great day out on this trip. Fairly easy rapids (grade1-2) but good laugh followed by a very nice buffet lunch. Did the trip with Rivergods. Close to KK and easily accessible. Padas is better rafting, but a long, long drive.

River rafting for 7km down the Kiulu River was rated our best day out of the holiday by us + our three children ages 7-10. Great adventure and loved swimming half way down, great lunch after the trip. Run by Riverbug, booked through exotic borneo.

We went as a family of 6 - our first rafting experience so chose the gentler Kiulu trip rather than the more adventurous Padas River one (to the dismay of some in the family, and relief for others!). We were picked up on time from our hotel by a very pleasant guide and found the whole journey (nearly 2 hrs), briefing, rafting, lunch and return very well organised. Felt safe in the hands of experienced and attentive hosts at all times. The rafting itself was fun, especially being allowed to body-raft at one point (ie on your back in the water) and the scenery is magnificent. If you want some bigger thrills and spills this may be a bit tame for you - but a great family outing. We paid RM185 per person through Riverbug (who are the main operators behind lots of the trip and tours companies in Sabah) - pretty good value for 2/3 of a day's rich entertainment. You almost have to buy their photos if you want a memory of the action - we bought a decent one for RM40 though you can spend more on digital, CD etc.

Being a first timer to do rafting, I must say this was worth it. Generally it was fun and quite good . Before starting, we attended the safety briefing, and wear all safety gears. Guide was good, and quite knowledgeable on the area. Please bring sunblocks, as the journey took about 2 hours. Watch out for big stones though. At the end of journey, we were served lunch which were tasty and simple. Will visit next time.

I recently travelled to Sabah with my wife and 2 daughters (12 and 14). I had previously had some experience canoeing. The rest of the family, none. The day started about about 8.30 am with transfer north from Kota Kinabalu for about 90 minutes into the Mountains. Sam, our guide was full of good info. The Kiulu River fluctuates with the amount of rain. It was reasonably clear the day we rafted and the rapids were just big enough to be exciting for us but certainly not dangerous. In fact, about half way through the trip we stopped for a drink and swim in the rapids. Overall the rafting lasts about 90 minutes. Afterwards we were taken to another site for lunch. You can buy photos if you want. The cost for adults was RM175 and RM140 for the kids. Overall we really had fun and would recommend it.

We went rafting here for half a day - great day out from KK. River is lovely and it's relaxing watching the scenery as you make your way down the river. 'Rapids' are very tame so you'll have fun so long as you're not expecting a white knuckle experience.
