Beautiful ornate decor and rich in history

Fascinating to learn about the various clans and their history of survival. This one is by far the most interesting ..very well preserved and looked after.

We were in Penang, Malaysia for a business trip and stayed in the Georgetown area for a night. We stroll along the Georgetown street enjoy viewing the various street arts. Pretty good. One of the locals recommended Khoo Kongsi so went. Khoo Kongsi is a small clan house preserved pretty nicely. The entrance fee is RM$10 per person. There are... More

It is a very small clan house in Georgetown, Penang that required an admission fees. I am not too impressed because it is just one small building. Georgetown are surrounded by many clan houses that you don't have to paid to view them. Khoo Kongsi is not that impressive for the price you have to paid to get in.

Overal, just another temple... we paid rm10 for entrance fee, it looks like a private rich house transformed as a cult place. Later we went near kelawai road to a very nice Burmese temple... Entrance free :-)

You have to pay entrance of about RM10 each. With a good magnifying len, you can see the intricate China craft using cut (specially only glazed on the outside) porcelain bowls, on the rooftop, forming intricate scales of the dragon or feathers of the phoenix, etc.; the black & white drawings of the legendary animals on both walls inside the... Don't get me wrong, it's a nice temple, but you have to pay RM10 entry, you could go to the Burmese temple which is much better and free.

Khoo Kongsi was one of the oldest building in Penang. It was a temple and a clan house for early chinese settlers from China during the early 19th century. The temple was restored and reopened to the public, it was a beautiful temple with old design, similar to the ones back in China. If you have a short time only... More
