The Sri Mahamariamman Temple or also known as Arulmigu Sri Mahamariamman Temple) is the oldest Hindu temple standing un Penang. With a history of more than 200 years in Penang, the temple is host to many amazing sculptures of Gods and Goddess on the exterior and fascinating Hindu deities such as Lord Subramaniamx Durga and Ganapathy inside.

The temple is not too big but during festivals like Diwali and Thaipusam, you will fins thousands of worshippers packing into the temple to make their offerings.

You need to go down Queen Street to see the best views of this beautiful temple. Lots of incredible colourful intricate structures from the outside. You need to take shoes off to enter

A nice & colourful temple with a lot of carvings, only saw it from outside as our time was limited,it is the oldest Hindu temple in George Town. This Hindu Temple is dedicated to Sri Muthu Mariamman, it should be visited by non Hindus as well as there is so much to see.

Yesterday we visited the temple while on a trishaw excursion.
What a lovely colourfull place .
The architecture is superb , the carvings of various Gods and Goddesses are exquisite .
Built in 1833 you wonder at the skill of the stonecarvers in those days .
A great place to visit and spend a bit of time and admire the temple.
This is of course a religious place so a little time to reflect on life does not go astray.
Make sure to show respect by removing shoes and being dressed appropriately. Visit for sure when in town .

A very elaborate Indian temple. Gorgeous on the exterior and also inside. You have to remove your shoes if you wish to enter. There is a tap on the side of the entrance for you to wash your feet.

We saw this Temple from a distance because the ceramic figures gleamed in the sunlight. Up close, it was even more incredible. The details of every figure and design expresses the love and care that went into creating this religious site. It is a photographer's delight from any angle.

This is a brilliant temple in little India. We were lucky to visit on a special day when the bring out the god in a chariot pulled by two bulls. Thousands of people followed the chariot singing. It was great.

Nothing to see here. Tarpaulins covering everything. Even peeking inside it doesn't look too special. No point in wasting time for a special visit, and hardly worth the effort of stopping as you explore the vicinity.

This temple is tiny and feels more like a miniature of a real south Indian temple than anything important. I looked inside and it didn't seem any more interesting than the facade. Even when open this place likely would tale less than a minute or two in your tour of Little India
