Such a cool place. Very interesting to be able to learn about the history of music in Penang and to see all the cool stuff they have here including old radios and record players. Also love the integration of technology into the museum for activities. I had a good time listening to some music and playing some of the instruments. Joyce was an excellent guide and made it really fun! Highly recommend! :)

If you are a first timer here in Penang, and you LOVE music.. this place is a MUST VISIT! Not only that the staffs are friendly, but they are willing to let you interact with the instruments. It is a music museum, so you'll learn a lot about Penang's history and how Western music was able to influence music in Penang back in the 1950s.

So much care has been taken in crafting this museum and the experience. they have something for everyone - there's hands on playing of instruments, VR experiences, sound pods, a library, a radio station - it's just so well done. and you get a personalised tour to take you around to begin with and then explore as much as you like after.

i would recommend this to everyone - i had a great time and learnt so much. everyone was so so friendly and helpful and were incredibly passionate about maintaining their culture thorough music.

Came to Penang a couple of times but never heard about this place before, so decided to give it a try. This is one of the Penang’s hidden gems. I was greeted by a lovely lady Elaine, my tour guide, who brought me back to the history of music in Penang. The whole tour took around 2 hours, but you will never feel the time passed, as they emphasize on engaging your senses. You are encourage to touch, feels and listen to the instruments. Had a blast here and hopefully more people can discover this place too. Please make an appointment at 012-416 1550 before drop by as they are following a strict SOP due to covid.

What a wonderful home for Penang’s musical history! We had a bit of difficulty finding the place (it’s on level 4 of the ICT mall) but so glad we persevered! We had a great tour with our 11 and 8 year old and it was a lovely way to spend the afternoon. You can feel the love of music in this place and it’s just seeped in history. We wish that the live music scene was able to be revived to its former glory it looked like SO much fun. Support this museum it’s a true labor of love.

The tour. It's informative and fun, wouldn't have experienced it the same without tour guide. Elaine shared us a lot of stories where we wouldn't find it anywhere on the Internet about local music and the history/development of Penang music.

A fantastic and little-known highlight of Penang. Hidden away on the upper level of Komtar mall. We had a free tour guide who was expert and passionate. Great thing to do in the heat of the day. Plenty of interactive experiences and the chance to play some of the instruments and work the radio desk. Recommended for families and adults interested in the origins of modern music. Plenty of stories and history of how music played a big part in people’s lives up to the 1970’s. Amazing to see so much memorabilia collected and now preserved from so many people from the last 150 years and to hear that some, now in their 80’s continue to be involved and even perform.

Visited with my husband and daughter. We learned so much about music, history and culture from the team. We got to try different instruments, appreciate different sounds and experience music in many ways. The place is well thought of and the collection and its presentation is well done.

One of the best museums I’ve ever been to. You learn so much about penangs music history. And the staff is very passionate about it. We got a private tour and it was very fun and informative. You can try many different music instruments- it is just awesome!
In my opinion a Must-Visit when you come to Penang.

We were fortunate to visit on a weekday when there was no crowd and our guided tour was conducted in an unhurried and intimate manner. The museum was a real eye opener and we could tell the people who manage it are dedicated and passionate about preserving the musical history of Penang and Malaysia in general. The tour is totally interactive and they encourage you to play with the exhibits, which include several musical instruments, audio gadgets and even a recording studio. Totally worth the time spent here.
