We went for a trip to see the Taman Negara national park in the jungle. Our driver MJ did a perfect job. While the 3 hours drive into the jungle, we had a nice chat with him with a lot of laughing. MJ was very friendly, amenable & courteous.
On the ride back home there was a giant traffic jam, so the drive back took us 6 hours instead of 3. Even though we were on the road for so long, we had a nice time inside the car with MJ. It was also his birthday and he had to work, but he wasn't mad or hectic at all. We were chatting nicely and laughed a lot, making the best of the situation. When we arrived in Kuala Lumpur, we saw the Petronas Twin Towers, shining bright and pretty and we adored them. Even though it was his birthday and we were on the road for so long (and his family had to have dinner without him), he offered us to go there in order to take some nice pictures, before heading to the hotel. After that, he even drove us to another very nice building (which I don't know the name of) to take some pictures. After that, he drove us to the Hotel. It was a very pleasant ride & we had a good time with MJ. We can recommend him to everyone who wants to make a tour in or around the city of Kuala Lumpur.

There's not much you can do here on your own.. and there are no guides. Every agency/hostel offer the same few trips, only one 1 day trip that is interesting (but unfortunately it already includes most things that you can do alone..so there's nothing left to fill in one more day if you've already planned to stay longer..). We did a day tour via hostel Agosto, with a very nice guid Tam, we enjoyed it, but it is a long day and the walikng tempo was pretty fast so not much time to look around. Also: i dont know what to think about the Orang Asli village..it didnt feel right to be there, its just three houses, and a few people who didnt look happy to see us.. There's also a 2D1N trip that includes sleeping in a cave..so if you haven't booked a hotel yet, it maybe an option as well. There are a few restaurants here where food (compering to the rest of the country) is ok. No alcohol in restaurants (you can buy it in hotels/hostels and mini markets/shops)

Beautiful park. From the map one gets at the entrance, one can do hikes 1-6 alone. Other hikes require a guide. Staying in Kuala Tahan is advisable as crossing the river is quite easy and hassle free.

The Jungle is there but not so much big animals…a lots of insects and butterflies.
Nice atmosphere at the river restaurants.

Negative is the boardwalk it’s not maintained for years. Parts is missing, it’s lose its quite dangerous after the dark.
So this is needed to fix it for now and the future…fix it now easier waiting will just create more work!!!!

I have been coming to Taman Negara for many years and have always enjoyed the incredibly beautiful trails throughout the park.
Many times I have followed the Orang Asli trails to find places to camp out for weeks at a time.
This is how I have experienced the true nature of this rainforest in all its beauty.
On this visit it appears the park management has made some new rules.
Any trails other than the boardwalks surrounding the resort are forbidden without the use of a guide.
In other words the actual forest, which is the sole purpose of being here, is not accessible.
Some of the boardwalks which visitors are allowed to walk are in a bad state of repair and bordering on dangerous.
They also don't really represent what it's like to be in the forest.
For those who come here for the standard, sleep in a cave, inner jungle package and a few of the other activities like the Canopy walk its a brilliant place to be.
For anyone wanting to explore and enjoy this beautiful forest on their own without being forced to hire guides don't waste your time.
Kuala Tahan is a great little village full of very friendly people and definitely worth a visit.

Having visited several parks in SE Asia this one is not different and others in Indonesia or Thailand are equal if not better altogether.
Broken and not maintained trails, missing toilets and garbage cans or obsolete signage hardly justified travel costs and fees
Basically this park is completely surrounded by palm oil plantations and chainsaw noise can be listened to while walking around nature.
(extra for mobile phones, cameras, and canopy trails)
for our efforts to visit.

Great park in the middle of Malaysian Peninsula, although requires a fair bit of maintenance.

From the south enter by long boat, then pay an entrance fee per day plus fee for using a camera/phone camera, total RM6/day entrance.

You can do various walks and treks in the park, check out the various hides to spot wildlife, walk up and across the worlds longest canopy walk, night walks and take a boat trip on the river. So good selection of activities on offer.

The boardwalks are very poorly maintained so be careful as they drop when walking in them, of where required you’ll step around broken boards.

The canopy walk only opens at 9am and becomes very busy quickly, so be prepared to wait in line.

During my time I saw and heard lots of birds, monkeys, frogs, scorpions, spiders, snakes.

Great park for nature lovers.

10 Stars if possible. :)))
Facing the real wilderness was not like expected, but really exiting.

Special inner Jungle Tour with an original Orang Asli, who is born in the Jungle. Amazing!
Deep wilderness experience, offside all the touristic trails. Called Tenor Trail. Only 5 of 55 Guides here familiar with this Part of the Jungle.

I can highly recommend this. The Guide was smelling at the plants to get to know if animals are arround, a lot of quiet Stop&Go because of a big elephant group with two Babys, that were arround. The Orang Asli guy is always analyzing the Jungle by his smell/ hearing/ analysing the treeroutes. We were forced to do bonfire during the Day to have a safe place if we are too close to wild animals. Really Adventure feeling. We ate some fresh inside material of a Palm. It tasted like mushrooms, really enjoyable.

After showing us a treeroute with fresh wet end (ate by elephant), we needed to stop again and surprisingly the guide started to ran back to us. So we started running as well for 100-150m. In the End a Elephant of the elephant Group was sleeping on the trail. A group of elephant is the most dangerous in jungle you can have, so you have to run.

A lot of people expect to See wild animals, but we learned that facing the real wild animals is no fun. So you can only watch the animals from far away.

But in the end everything was safe because of this really experienced Orang Asli Guides. Due to the elephant group we can't finish the trail and were forced to go Back to the Orang Asli Village, were we Hang arround for 1 hour. We enjoyed the atmosphere, get to know to there life, which is sadly more and more influenced by the City.

We booked at a Information called Jungle planer near the circle upstairs the boat line. The Manager is a Park Ranger and born in Kuala Tahan. Top Adress to have discussions about jungle and Real wildlife. He offers also the Standard Attraction, but heißt a Jungle Ranger and lover by Heart. Agency officially is called.

Costa is 200-300 Ringit. Depend on the number of persons. It will be not more than four. My Personal feeling is that two Person is the best to be safe and have one on one support by the Orang Asli guides (always two or more, never only alone in the jungle)

!!! Don't book beforehand with NKS Office, take some time and go in touch with the locals.

I can recommend Park Lodge as accomodation as well. The Owner is a retired Park Ranger, who traveld whole Malaysia, got bite by a Snake, can do original animal noises. A really interesting Guy. The accomodation is clean and surrounded by Green nature and awesome atmosphere
