I was attacked by a pack of 6-7 feral dogs at 7am on the beach, as I was just starting my run from Dash Hotel. These dogs enclosed in a circle around me within 2 minutes of my job and started barking aggressively at me. At first I thought it was a warning that I as on their territory but they were way too close to me and acting much too aggressively. One of the dogs (a white dog with black patches) behind me started to bite my calves and I started to bleed. Fortunately, a local man came with a stick and managed to drive the dogs off. Another woman who was also walking along the beach told me that they had done the same to her but she was carrying a stick.

My hotel quickly took me to the local hospital but I was not able to get a Rabies shot because I'm a foreigner and the local hospital only reserves these vaccinations for locals. I had to go to the only clinic on the island that have rabies vaccination (Boo Clinic) and paid more than RM380 for the entire experience (RM100 at the local hospital that only cleaned my wounds and RM280 for the rabies shot).

My hotel did advise that they had informed the local authorities but this and they are going to take the dogs away to be spaded (perhaps). What was scary was that if this happened to a child, they could be badly hurt (I could be as well if this other man didn't come to my rescue)

An amazing beach but be careful of the four season hotel Security stopping you walking onto the best section.

We stopped off by the Scarborough fish and chips and then walked down to the four season area it was incredible.

Be careful of the jelly fish!

Better than Pantai Cenang if it’s a beach you are after. Long strip of sand, easy sea, lovely setting but most of ll, no hawkers and you can feel relaxed. There are a couple of beach hotels that you can go in and have a drink too.

Wonderful beach, very close to busier Cenang Beach. Great place to relax and watch the world go by. A few hotels right on the beach, most allowing outside guests to enjoy the bar facilities. Amazing sunsets as well.

is a van parking when u entry to the beach is expensive, there is a counter with a long table and few beach chair , the person selling parasailing for rm50 per person. other in cenang are selling rm100 for person, or they will tell u is one trip rm100 , is 2 seat but for my personal suggestion , better u go with the professional ,they know how to control better when u need to landing on the beach.

Beware beach goers. On 25th June 2019 I was stung by box jellyfish at this beach, apparently out of season. There were no nets or warning signs. other people were in the water at the time. Sting covered most of my right thigh and other parts of my body. Suffered excruciating pain, besides other things. Spent 2 days in local hospital. Was told I was very lucky to survive. I believe that as I had vinegar applied to the sting site within 2 minutes probably saved me.
Beautiful beach and location. Posting as a warning to other visitors.

Tengah beach is one of the quitest beaches but not the best. There is limited shade and eating/drinking options is the recently opened Hidden Bar but prices are more for short stay holidayers (not low budget backpackers). There are small jellyfish, which is you can stand the sharp stings are tolerable and able to swim. Tengah beach is best for sunset. Cenang beach is touristy and swarmed with bars and eating places, the ratio of jet skis to people is almost 1:1. It's ashame that locals are allowed to drive their bikes and cars along the sand, consider a time restriction on when this can be done The day I swam there were no jellyfish, the water is a little murky probably from the diesel fuel coming from the jet skis. The view is the islands from the beach are beautiful. If you want something more beautiful and secluded go to Tenjung Rhu beach, north of the island. Although half the beach is now privately owned by a resort. Security will stop you from walking along the beach :-(. DO NOT bother with PANTAI KOK or TELOK DATAI BEACH, both have recently been closed to the public and are now owned by private resorts. There is another beach, Pasir Tengkorak Beach, which is accessible but has jellyfish and no bars restaurants or toilets.

Sept 2019 • Family
Horrible, Worst, and life threatening experience for our whole family. A painful memory on our trip to Langkawi.

Our lives were put at danger. We had planned parasailing for 5 family members including two senior citizens and a 5 year old child.

Upon asking whether it is safe for our old parents {60 and 64 years old} and child the shirtless Guy on the counter dismissed us curtly saying "It is safe" and shouted at us to hurry without paying attention to our concerns.

His behaviour was very rude and intimidating.
Without giving us life jackets, He told us to ride a Banana boat in order to reach to the big boat for parasailing.

When we objected, he shouted at us again saying it is his daily routine and He knows better than us.

We told him that we can't risk getting wet as we had a flight to catch and he assured us that we won't get a single drop of water on us.

We also requested that Banana boat is an altogether diffrent activity and we are not prepared for it, we have our documents like passport tickets etc in our bag and can not risk that bag getting wet but he told my husband to carry the shoulder bag with him on banana boat .

We doubted him as me and my husband had done parasailing and banana boat previously in Mauritius with professionals and we knew what these activities are and how much wet you can get in each.

We requested that we have old parents and very young child who can not stand on banana boat and make balance while transferring to the other big parasailing boat, but their whole group was not listening to us, were literally shouting and intimidating us.

We had already paid and looking at their rude behaviour and repetitive shouts just climbed the banana boat with great difficulty one by one.

In the last I climbed, and when I was trying to balance myself, The rude guy shouted at me to move forward, I obeyed and simultaneously the other guy moved the Banana boat to save it from the big Boat which was about to bump into Banana boat due to a big wave.

I immediately fell down in the ocean my whole purse got wet including money, cards and phone, my husband caught hold of my 5 year old daughter in time but she too was half soaked, my husband too fell down and our documents, passports all got wet.

I was completely soaked from head to toe. We had to rush to market to buy dry cloths for us in the wet state and hurry to airport.

It was our sheer luck that the ocean was shallow where we fell, so our lives were saved otherwise these unprofessional arrogants hadn't even given us life jackets to wear on a banana boat....

Instead of saying sorry, these rude people shouted at us even more... blaiming it all on us and told us to shut up. They behaved like savages.... risked the lives of old people and young children like this.... A Banana boat ride without life jackets.

Banana boat is different and parasailing is different, we were forced to do a watersport we never opted... That too without safety measures.

Such people deserve to be fined by government and shut down forever for the sake of safety of naive people who might fall into their clutches.

Our advice to fellow travellers to Labhkari is that book with any watersports agents only after thorough research, and going through reviews as there are plenty unauthorized ones are there who have opened tiny shops and cheating travellers with old/ broken instruments and inadequate safety measures.
We had similar but less unpleasant experience on our island hopping tour on a day prior to this incidence....no life jacket On all the three speed boat activities we did in 3 days... And on island hopping tour we weren't given proper stool/ stair and had to jump down from boat on the shore which was a challenge for our old parents....

Please do check for certified agencies to avoid the problems we faced.

While Cenang beach is Langkawi's most popular beach... this is a very "pleasant respite" from the crowds. Of course, there are fine restaurants, bars and hotels/resorts, but no where nearly as many. Taking an early morning "beach walk" or watching the sun set in a "serine setting" with a more peaceful ambience adds to its attractiveness. There are also attractions and water sports, including Jet Skis, parasailing and boats. It is definitely worthy of a stay or at least "a visit".

I hope that this Review has been helpful.
