It is an amazing place to visit thanks to its miraculous atmosphere. It is definitely easier to understand if you are a believer yourself, though it is not a condition. Although it is Monastery of Saint Maron it is well known because of Saint Charbel's presence. In many countries it is less-known Saint but in Lebanon it is a very famous figure. He is known from many miracles and that is why you may meet here many pilgrims. I definitely recommend visiting the complex - you can visit the church, Saint Charbel's tomb, a museum. The sanctuary has a nice mountain location so you can admire great views if the weather is good.

It’s a lovely, holy and peaceful monastery. Fabulous views. I could easily live there forever. It’s a nice Christian site. There are 2 churches, museum, a nice restaurant, toilets, souvenir shops. One can park there, but on Sundays, it’s a bit difficult if one is not up there pretty early. I adore that place and especially the Saint, Blessed St. Charbel.

The convent hosts the tomb and life of Saint Charbel, the most famous of Lebanese Saints. His reputation is world-wide which led Saint Patrick Cathedral to host a shrine in his name inside the Cathedral in New York City. To visit the place where he lived and walked is a mesmerizing experience. After you visit, you regain an inner peace no matter what religion you belong to. Visiting the solitary place where he spent most of his life praying in solitary is a must stop as well. It’s a short drive away on a hilltop with amazing views, not to mention the deep emotional move when you contemplate the tiny room where Saint Charbel spent most of his life till he died. No visit to Lebanon is complete without a visit to Annaya.

Known locally as internationally for his many miracles til this date, you may check website. His life was not easy working and living in the field with altitude of minimum 1, 250 km from sea level. Snow and cold during winter season (Dec-Feb), mild weather during Fall and Spring (MAR-NOV), hot during days in summer (JUN-AUG). There is the old church and the new Cathedral as well as monastery. The old St. Maroun church lower level holds his clothes, tombs (new and old), his family statues, letters sent to the monastery from all over the world, souvenir places,...the length to stay depends on your goal: leisure, to discover, walk, pray, ..you can go by yourself, couple, or family, it is a place for all, very spiritual with the nature surrounding, calm (depending on the season and time of visit night or day). During summer doors remain open til late hours. on 22 of each month since 24 years now, the old lady Mrs. Nouhad along with thousands of pilgrims, regardless of the weather condition, visit to pay tribute for his miracle done to her among others who will testify having medical tests. It is an outstanding experience one has to undergo by walking from his cell up in the mountain to reach the church with candles and prayers along the way. Any Lebanese living abroad once visiting Lebanon it is a must visit, not to mention the non-Lebanese as priests speak different languages and very active on Facebook and website. God bless.

The monastery is so well nice to see, the internal spaces are so well managed to accommodate a large group of people.
Hint: do not get back without tasting local food at the near restaurants - usually the quality and prices of food at annaya are good.

My husband and I went to the monastery and visited the tomb of Saint Charbel. While there, my husband fell into a deep trance and was filled with a violent energy neither of us can explain. He had to be supported by a few bystanders because he literally lost control of his body.
He’s not overly religious and we had no expectations or requests of the Saint beyond visiting the site. Any explanations?

This is a typical touchy visit : you could have registered this experience in the visits documentation book.
Actually. The tomb has inside the relics of Saint Charbel, a priest who left this word way before he was dead to live a life that no human can tolerate.
The experience you and your husband had is surely a lifetime memorable one.
As of today . Saint Charbel is named the doctor of heaven and has many miracles attributed to him.
