We just went to see the pillar which Vasco Da Gama erected in 1499 next to the Sheikh's palace. Because of the cross on top the muslims removed the pillar and it was re-erected in its present location in the 16th Century.

Took a tuk tuk to the monument, however you are required to pay 500 shillings to access it, including a museum. Since we didn't see any benefit in visiting the museum we opted to drive along the beach and check out the monument from afar...More

not much to see but very informative to a person with a passion to history. charges are a bit high but i believe its for preservation, maintenance and revenue of course. educative and fun for children since they read about it in books.

We were there to understand the story of Vasco da Gama and it has clearly described on the monument. It was really sad to read the story of their journey.

Just a little bit of history here plus a side visit to the first Catholic church built in East Africa. I guess it is good from a historical view point plus a nice place to take some few photos.

I suppose it's something to see of heritage but quite frankly not worth the 400/- adult resident's entrance. Worth 50/- for my son!

Just take tuk-tuk or work there and you will learn a lot about history of Africa and Kenya. And maybe you will understand this country more... You cam combine this visit with visiting national museum in Malindi. That type of history needs to be described...More

We were received by a very knowledgeable tour guide, Karisa who explained all there is to know about the pillar and its rich history. Unfortunately it is poorly managed and difficult to reach as its original access is private property. This leaves a very narrow...More
