A marker from one of the most important voyages in human history. Recently repaired and repainted with a better lead in.

Was my first time there. It was a great experience walking around barefoot up the Vasco da Gama pillar

Absolute rip-off. Don’t bother. You will be harassed by people posing as tour guides where in fact they just walk alongside you until you reach the beach. They have NO historical knowledge to impart and are just there to hustle tourists.
It’s historical relevance is negligible. It’s run down, unsafe and really quite pathetic.

If history lessons are your thing, this place is rich in the Kenyan Coast's ancient global trade (13th century). The cultural guides onsite will paint a vivid picture for you as they re-live history. You can shop for some Swahili artifacts at the gate, but be sure to put in a bargain- in our trade circles nothing has a fixed price tag!

It's a nice place , although there's nothing much to do there apart from enjoying the scenery and the historical monument. Great spot for photography.

Located by the beach,in Malindi town.A guide will quickly take you through the history of the area and the construction of the pillar itself.good to note is the public beach just down the road, white sandy beach and clear waters, perfect for morning/afternoon walks.there are lots of eateries around with amazing local cuisine.entry is Kes.100 only for the citizens (free for drivers!!). Opens by 6am,closes at 7pm.Extreamley friendly locals.Beautiful location.☺

When we were on vacation in Malindi, we were staying next door to this site so we decided to visit. The visit was nothing great as the place needs some upgrades. The interest was the age of this monument.

Visiting the pillar sounded like a great idea. I however felt there was really nothing much to do once I got there!

The history behind the pillar is amazing but if you visit only this site, 500KES is too much. However, you have to know that the guide, Malindi Museum and Portuguese chapel visits are included to your ticket. With this, the price is very reasonable. We had a great time!
