Though the place is quite difficult to get, one will never regret when finally there. Alpine lakes surrounded by magnificent mounts and fir trees. We stayed there for a night, lakeside camp and picnic were unforgettable. Kolsai is among my top destinations, despite low infrastucture....More

Take around 1-2 hours for walking around and taking pictures. Only two groups of travellers were there on a sunday morning. It started raining lightly after we arrivee for 1.5 hrs and then we left. Very nice views and enjoyable tranquility

Don't miss out this special gem in the heart of the mountains. It's not easy to get there, I recommend you to rent a car (4 WD). This way is cheaper, comfortable and flexible of course. There is a little entrance fee which is not...More

Kolsai Lakes are difficult to get to, particularly in winter and early spring when many roads are closed from snow, or are too damaged by run off for buses and tours to run. We did find a tour, but still it was a challenge to...More

Breathtaking views, cold as ice water, mountains and horseback riding - that was a day spent in Kolsai Lakes. Not easy to reach: you have to have 4x4 or rent an old soviet bus with a driver (as we did) but this place is really...More

Went to Kolsai Lakes last August. They are not easy to get to, but well worth the effort! Gorgeous lakes with clear turquoise colorefd water. We camped one night at Lake 1, then hired pack horses and hiked to Lake #2 for a night. Lake...More

I visited the lakes a number of times. Drove many times, the road quality is not that good, so it’s a challenging trip. Most times we like to hire helicopters to do picnics there. On a heli it’s only a half an hour flight, by...More

I took the weekend trip from almaty (blast tours, aisa discovery, ecotourism have offers at 16000tg) and it was amazing. Some of it come down to a great guide and a nice group of people, but the beautiful nature takes most credit. The hikes as...More

We came up here to see the lakes and take a stroll around. The main lake is a bit mobbed but if you go a bit further up then it is quiet and pleasant.

I tend to agree with Jing H. We hired transport via Internet before arriving in Almaty and consequently ended up paying way too much for a very friendly driver who barely spoke English. We ordered a tour incl Kolsaï lakes.

Hi, Unfortunately I do not think there is an easy way to get there from Almaty by public transport. It is around a 5 hour drive from the city and the roads require a 4x4 vehicle.
