- Haytham Abu FirasQatar21,220 contributionsThe EagleWe used the cable car up to the hill. It costs 5000 tenge 2 ways for the adult and half price for up to 12 years old. Amazing visit, wonderful view from the top while in funicular and on the top. Many things to do like visit the upside down house, car coaster, theme park games, dine in or picture in traditional Kazakh dress holding 8 kg weight eagle. Great experience.Visited October 2023Travelled with familyWritten 22 October 2023
- Frances BYorkshire, United Kingdom2,630 contributionsA fun way to get a different view of the cityI decided to visit Kok Tobe Hill one evening. I wanted to see the illuminated views of Almaty. The cable car station is well signed and situated a short walking distance from the imposing Kazakhstan Hotel. A single adult trip in the cable car costs 3000 Tenge and a return trip costs 5000 Tenge. It is possible to walk up or down the mountain. It was very quiet on the being I visited. The cable car ride takes around 6 minutes. Once at the top there is a fun park vibe. There are different rides and plenty of great photo opportunities. There is a fantastic view of the city. There are also a number of restaurants and places to get ice creams / drinks etc. It’s not a cheap trip, particularly if you’re a family but I can see why children would really enjoy it.Visited October 2023Travelled soloWritten 25 October 2023

It has some entertainment amenities too such as Ferris wheel. The cable car ride is a good experience. Overall I have spent 1.5 hour here at night time.Visited October 2023Travelled soloWritten 28 October 2023
- Jan TLeidschendam, The Netherlands1,409 contributionsNice view on the city and souvenirs availableGreat for a family with fairly young children. The activities are highly geared toward kids. For a couple, it's a bit less appealing. The view of the city is excellent, but of the mountains, it's much less so. This is an excellent place to buy souvenirs, as they are hardly available elsewhere.Visited August 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 9 November 2023

At the top there are tons of things to do - a small feeding zoo, arcade games, upside down house, restaurants, and so much more. This is a very nice and quiet park. We took the cablacar and we went to the upper part of the city. There are some entertainment, such as a mini zoo with a lot of cute animals. If you are in Almaty, I suggest you to spend some hours here.

Cool place to enjoy the panoramic views of the mountains & city of Almaty from atop Kok-Tobe Hill. The 6 minute one-way Kok-Tobe Hill gondola ride costs 3000 tenge while return trip costs around 5000 tenge which is a little pricey. Lots of entertainment options to explore & enjoy such as children amusement park rides, petting zoo, Beatles statue, restaurant and scenic view points. Spent a couple of hours on a pleasant summer evening in this popular city destination.

The ride up and down the mountain is nice and peaceful, all the lines move fast. On top there’s plenty to do (especially for kids) since there’s lots of rides etc. Views are great and I really recommend watching the sunset from up there. But whatever you do, do not eat at the restaurants. It was the worst experience we had while in Almaty — the service was super slow (there were three of us and one of us got their food an hour after ordering while everyone else was already done with their meal + we waited 45 minutes for the bill and only got it because we were ready to walk out and finally we were charged twice), people were pretty rude (our waiter got angry with us because we spoke broken Russian and didn’t always understand him), food was average at best. The views from the restaurant are great though so if anything, maybe have a drink there.

One of the best viewing points within the city! You have to go to the left once you reach the hill to enjoy the great panoramic views of the city. On the right there is zoo, some kids activities and green valley and mountains view. Cafe and restaurants both sides. You can reach by cable car from the city, all the rest - taxi, car, public transport will take you to the point where you have to walk uphill to the top or take a minivan for 1000 kzt both ways that takes you to the top. But we didn't like those poor magestic eagles who used there blinded for tourists attraction and photos - what a torture to sit blind in that crazy crowded place, being touched by every passing person and work every day in such lifetime prison. Feel free to check my insta Yasmine of July for more videos and photos.

We were here in October 2022. The cable car cost 3,500 per person in both directions, a reasonable price. Half of the territory was dug up.
We arrived in August 2023. Cable car 5000 round trip for one person. Robbery. It costs the same amount to climb Mount Shymbulak, although it is 1,000,000 times more interesting. The territory was dug up and remains the same.
A small zoo is just a mockery.
A typical place to rip off your money, nothing more.
Not worth it, absolutely. It's better to go to Shymbulak.

Kok-Tobe hill also called as Green Hill is ideal place to enjoy panoramic views of city, distant valleys and mountains. This can be reached by fast cable car and one can spend hours on the peak. There are lots of activities for one and all. Those adventurous can walk down leisurely.

Over my 30+ years of travelling I've visited so far 90 countries and over 500 cities on all continents.
Out of these 500 cities, around 150 I can call bigger cities.
Almaty is for sure in Top 3 ugliest bigger cities I've been to.
Downtown "attractions" you can cover in half a day, so it's logical to come here before sunset to catch both - day and night views.
On the day we visited gondola wasn't working so we took Yandex taxi up to the parking lot and a mini bus from there to the top.
Once up, there's a social welfare like theme park with some kitschy decorations - the Beatles monument (why the hell there ???) being the worst one.
City views are underwhelming with nothing to see but smog and a mix of Soviet era apartment blocks together with new Dubai style glass high rises. Most interesting was the ski jump at the city outskirts and many parks and greenery around.
Opposite side views towards the mountains are far better though very limited due to some unreasonable fence installed there.
There were some nice restaurants up, but we didn't dine there as we ate downtown beforehand.
In total, we spent less than an hour there. I wouldn't even advise to go up, but because of lack of attractions downtown you'll also end up here.

The gondola ride is nice (3500 tenge round trip in Feb 2023). The city is quite smoggy so the view from the top isn't clear, and there are no paths to walk around for different views. There's an amusement park so this would be good for young families. It was underwhelming for a solo visitor but I'm still glad I tried it out.

Kok Tobe is a nice, fun, relaxing experience for families, couples, and solo travelers who simply want some great views of Almaty. The tram ride is relaxing. At the top of the hill visitors will find a little amusement park and a bunch of virtual reality game booths. Kids love it. However, once you walk past the amusement park area the paths take you around the top of the hill where you can see beautiful views of the mountains on one side and spectacular views of the city on the other side. There is also at fantastic restaurant atop the hill; a little expensive but very very good. The tables on the patio offer guests great views of the city.

We are planning for a trip towards end of March , and wondering the things or places we can visit in Kazakhstan in 9 days?
Written 10 January 2020
I could recommend some places.
If you like hiking and nature you should go to big Almaty lake, Kolsai lakes, Sharyn national park. You go there by tour, taxi or rent a car.
Almaty had some nice parks, mosques and churches.
There might be still the chance for snowboarding or skiing at Shymbulak.
North of Almaty is Qapschaghai with a beautiful big lake. In march it might be still to cold for swimming.

How much ticket cost for 2 ways ???
Written 13 July 2019
I’m sorry I cannot advise you as I ride up and down with a group and the tour leader paid. I’m sure it is not expensive though as prices everywhere in Almaty were very reasonable. Enjoy.

Will be visiting Almaty from 29 March to 1st April 2015 on a tight business trip. Can anyone suggest what places can I cover in between the breaks, and one full day break. My advantage is, I will have a full time transport with me with local driver/guide.
I want to utilize my short visit at the best.
Also want to know what will be weather that time, with kind of clothing suggested.
