It is worth travelling there to take the rope way to the TOP of the mountain. The view on a clear day is awesome. The wait for the ropeway can be long during peak hours.

Really cool going up in the ski lift the sight was breathtaking even though it was freezing we had a blast would definitely be back if I am ever in Japan again

We went Dec 3 and were extremely lucky w the weather. Blue sky and 15 kmh wind is only 2 days per month in winter. At top of ropeway there is a 30 and 60 mins hiking course. In winter bring snow shoes or rent...More

Yes, there is a bus running from Aomori JR station and from Shin-Aomori station - not very frequent, however and the last bus leaves from Hakkoda Ropeway station around 4 pm.
