This is funky place with lots of small food stalls selling just about any type of food, from seafood, to meat to noodles, and a bunch of local fried stuff. We have tried 4-5 places and spent about 3 hours. They have community tables so it makes it extra fun. A crowded place and feels more like a flea market so do not expect a fancy super clean place, but that is the charm of it besides great choices of local foods.

The quality of food is unbelievable, so fresh and well made, sit with a group and make some new friends in this lovely communal setting. Do keep an eye out for the flags because it can be easy to miss! A wonderful stop near the castle for lunch and a drink.

The seared tuna from the market with a cold beer was amazing. One of the nicest taste experiences I have had. Highly recommended.

This place was amazing. We went for lunch and had quality food from different vendors and the prices were all very reasonable. The atmosphere was friendly with family and friends gathering for a Sunday meal and drinks. Great place to be on a hot day, as it was air-conditioned.
Plenty of seatings and drinks galore! For the non drinkers, there were also shops to get little souvenirs from.

We stayed at the centrally located Richmond Hotel, so it was only a 5-minute walk down the mall to Hirome Market. It's a vibrant market with a huge variety of restaurant stalls to choose from, with central seating. You're spoiled for choice with what to have for dinner, and if you're in a Group, everyone can go to a different place to order food, but you all sit together.
We went on a Wednesday evening, and it was very popular and busy.
Our only bugbear is people smoke there!

If you want to try local food in a cool atmosphere, you really need to visit Hirome Ichiba! I highly recommend it if you're looking for a cool dining experience with the authentic Kochi's vibe. You can buy a bento from the market inside or order some food and drinks from one of the many food stalls. Don't miss to try "Katsuo-no-tataki" (seared bonito), one of Kochi specialities!

If you are in Kochi and hungry go here, it's that simple.
Venture through the plastic sheeting doors and you're thrown into a world of noise and smells and general hubbub that Japan so rarely has.
Multiple food stalls offer every and any type of Japanese food, amazing Tuna, Gyoza, & everything else.
All the beer and sake you could ever wish for and in a communal dining area so you'll be chatting/signing with locals and just enjoying yourself in no time.
One of the best dining experiences I had in 3 weeks in Japan.

Found that this market open till the night. We made this our pit stop instead of kochi city.
The market has many eateries. It will be good to have a quick walk round before deciding on what to eat.
There is also a alcohol shop in the market selling local sakes and shochu
