Situated on a high peak above Kochi city this is a truly fine example of a Japanese temple. The air quality is fresh and invigorating due to the altitude and the walk up through the grounds to the temple complex is exhilarating. There are several buildings to view and whilst they are all architecturally interesting you are constantly reminded that... More

This is pardon the pun a very zen like place, it is so peaceful and surrounded by beautiful natural bush land, whilst I was visiting there were quite a few worshipers chanting, I hoped that I did not disrespect them by being a nosy tourist. I loved this temple in all it's glory situated high above the city of Kochi... More

We travelled by car and had no problem reaching the temple. Parking free and ample. A lot of pilgrims were visiting the grounds. Bamboo walking sticks are provided free of charge. Certainly worth a visit

Upon leaving the Makino botanical garten we went to the Chikurinji Temple and enjoy a walk through the premises and the garden. We were at the cherry blossom period and it was beautiful. The pilgrims are also visiting the temple, making a counterpoint to the quietness of the gardens. You can make all these attractions with the bus - cost... More

The treasury was fantastic, great sculptures. Enjoyed the temple well kept, worth going to see. Calm and tranquil.

We went to this temple after walking through the Botanical Gardens. The Pagola was beautiful. The grounds and little temples within are great. The place is very serene and not to be missed.

I combined the trip to Chikurin-ji with a visit to Makino botanical garden. They are alongside the same street uphill. The temple ground is free but to enter the honbo and its garden, you need to pay 600 yen. The garden is quite small and not up to my expectation (for a 600 yen, of course). The temple ground itself... More

Visited this very fine shrine around New Year this year (2013). We combined the visit with The Makino Botanical Garden and the viewpoint at the top of Mount Godaisan! A top day and very special to visit this old beautiful temple. Quite a lot of people around since it's a big holiday and everybody's off work or school. Tranquil place!

I am visiting my daughter in Kochi City for a few weeks and today we decided to walk from the Asakura area where she lives to Godaisan. That in itself was quite a hike, but we paced ourselves with occasional diversions (Starbucks en route) and plenty of water on this typical hot and humid June (16.2009) day. Starting at the... More
