This museum is well-arranged and has a few interactive displays, but probably is not very exciting for younger visitors. However, it is very interesting to history buffs because it contains many documents about everyday life from the castle, such as resumes of samurai retainers, payroll listings, and messages from afar. There are a few preserved pieces of armor and surcoats, but a fun detail is a free area where you can take photos using replicas of the ones in the displays. Those photos make a great souvenir of your visit to Kochi!

The museum is not large as it is only on the 3rd floor and all the labels were in Japanese only. You can try to power through with google translate app or similar. Would at most allot 30 mins.

Might be worth a look for nonJapanese tourists, certainly worth a look if you or your partner read Japanese . There were some stamps and astronmy cards for kids, but it probably is not the best place for younger, nonJapanese tourists. There are restrooms, seating, vending machines and a gift shop at the ground level before paid entry as well as some touristy videos so it can be a cooler resting place after a Kochi castle climb.

This museum is housed in a brilliantly designed building with a true focus on Japanese style with a modern eye. The exhibition is based on the history of the now called Kochi area and provides an excellent information base for better understanding the great history of the region and in part Japan. Suggest you take the audio option so to gain a clearer understanding, it is free with the 1,000 yen deposit returned when handing back the unit. The interior use of timber on wall in the stairs area is great as well as the use of concrete and steel in the building itself. Not the cheapest of entrance charge, approximately 700 yen, but I considered it worth the cost just for seeing inside the building let alone the great exhibition display. Can happily recommend you visit.

The architecture of this museum is striking but we were very disappointed in the actual displays, which are minimal. Signage is in Japanese but we were told afterwards that there are headphones with English translations/explanations. The highlight is the view of the castle itself.

Not very interesting as most of the displays were in Japanese. We asked for an English guide book but this did not help much either.
There are 3 floors but you have to pay to visit the 3 rd floor where most of the displays are. Maybe worth a quick visit.

This museum has some interesting exhibits on the history of the city and the castle. Don't miss the viewing gallery for a great view of the castle.
