The onsen experience itself is worth going, and this one is very popular. Although it was not the best onsen, crowdy and only one bath on the women section... the visit of the emperor's private onsen and the room with the Soseki pictures make this an interesting experience.

We took the full tour and found it pretty outdated. Most interesting was the emperor bath in the basement which has not been used for the past 60 years. The best this onsen has to offer can be seen from the streets and from the hill

Do you like hot spring ? In Asia, especially Japan and Korea, they like to have a bath at hot spring as they believe it is good for your health which was medically proven already. Dogo onsen is one of the oldest hot spring in Japan and its traditinal building is popular and were motivated many popular Japanese animation as... More

Known for it's onsens this area is fantastic, little arcades, shops, cafes, pubs/bars and best of all the onsens. This is a must do for the keen tourist to Japan.

From the tram station to Dogo Onsen Honkan there is a shopping arcade where you can find any kind of souvenirs. Soseki, a famous Japanese writer often visited this Onsen and supposedly he also walked these streets.

Nice Onsen with four levels of service to choose from. All levels are public gender specific baths (true to Onsen tradition), but paying more gets access to smaller less crowded baths and private tatami rooms to chill out in your yukata (kimono) with some tea and sweets. Ranges from approx 400¥ up to 1500¥ per person. But if you have... More

I enjoyed very much of my 2-day staying there. The old onsen, perhaps more appropriately called a royal onsen, attracts a lot of local and international visitors. Outside the onsen building, there is a main street of shops selling souvenirs and foods. The atmosphere is truly touristic when people wearing Japanese gowns are walking along the streets.

While waiting for our number to be called at the Dogo Onsen we walked around the onsenai. There are interesting small shops that sells sweets and goods. One shop sells the famous Matsuyama fresh orange juice, People walk around to shop and take pictures of Bochan.

有名な道後温泉街ですが、良いホテルにとまりホテル内の温泉を楽しむほうが良いです。 温泉代が高いのでびっくりです。 i prefer to take a bath in the hotel, if you stay at a fancy hotel. it's kind of expensive to take a bath here.

The place is the oldest public bath in Japan and is very famous. I went in with high expectations but a bit disappointed. It was small and expensive. Depending on a price you pay, it includes a thin towel, yukata, green tea and osenbei. It was a good experience, but I found it too expensive for a short dip. You couldn't... More
