Hogonji is the birthplace of Ippen Shonin, a Buddhist monk, who founded Jishu sect. From Dogo Onsen Honkan, you can reach there by walking uphill for several minutes.

Hogonji burnt down in August 2013. (Review from September 2013 is actually Yu Jinja, not Hogonji). Hogonji is currently being reconstructed so it's not much of an attraction as a temple, but you can see how it is being built, which is of some interest.

I went to this temple by mistake (looking for Ishiteji temple) it was a short walk, you can see the steps going up from the bus stop (by the way have a look at the clock beside the bus stop, something happens to it on...More
