Japan is not a country that is generally accessible to people with disabilities other than those who are blind. Visiting most tourist sites requires climbing up and down many flights of stairs. I was delightfully surprised to discover that Shurijo Castle is a major exception....More

Shurijo Castle was rebuilt after WWII since it was totally destroyed. Nevertheless the reconstructed building gave us an excellent insight on how the king of Okinawa lived. The buildings and entrance gates are really beautiful and a mixture of Chinese and Japanese constructions.

Beautiful construction. Explanations also in English and accessible for handicaped persons at least when inside. ( from the outside access more difficult). Worth visiting.

Me and my family we loved the visit to the castle where we could learn about the Kingdom of Ryukyu long gone after the Japanese took control of the Islands. We enjoyed the tea ceremony there a lot.
