I've always enjoyed visiting Japanese markets in every city that I've been so this one wasn't to be missed. The dry goods section is good. Lots of the usual shops such as pharmacies, souvenir shops, restaurants, cellars and places selling local snacks. The wet market is interesting. Ground floor has a number of places selling live seafood and also freshly... More

It has very strong fishy smell. The restaurants last order 830pm. Not a very impressive place to visit. Around this market, many souvenir shops.

Fantastic fresh and preserved local food. Brilliant display of local seafood and some fish you wouldn't see outside of Japan. The market is divided into sections for seafood, pork and beef. The preserved pigs head was quite unique. If it takes your fancy you can buy fresh food on the first / ground floor and have it cooked in the... More

There's 2 levels to this market. Lower level has the various stalls selling fish and other seafood and meat, etc. The upper level are the stalls/eateries selling food. Other than some seafood which looked interesting, this is otherwise a pretty ordinary market with multiple stalls selling almost the same stuff. You don't need > 1 hr in here unless u... More

This place attracts many tourists, so do not be surprised at the number of souvenir shops. To get away from the crowds, do not be afraid to venture down some of the really small streets. You will find unique shops and restaurants. I love wondering down these streets, and now and then, I find one I have not been down... More

The Makishi market was queit boring. It had all kinds of souvenirs shops and some food stores. Was all kind of the same. The only more interesting part was the fish market. Giant lobsters and crabs still alive waiting to be bought and killed.
