This onsen was amazing. Very relaxing and very clean. Has a sandbath (mixed gender, but everyone is wearing a yukata), and separate gendered onsen baths, with a sauna. Shampoo and body soap are included. Very large and relaxing, we spent many hours here. Walkable distance...More

This was my first onsen experience in Beppu and was by far the best. I took the private bath option in the evening and I would recommend this to anyone during the winter months. The over head open view was breathtaking and refreshing

This onsen named Hyoutan onsen is very nice. ひょうたん温泉はとても素晴らしいですね。 There are many bathes and Utase-Yu that mean high press shower and body soap and shampoo. 浴槽もたくさんあり、水圧も高い打たせ湯もあります。シャンプー、石鹸もあります You can feel relax after taking onsen. Because location is nice. 温泉の雰囲気も良く温泉後にとてもリラックス出来ます。 You can experience jigoku-mushi that mean steamed...More

Hyotan onsen is always my favorite in Beppu. It has several types of baths, remember to try all. But don’t wash yourself with fresh water after you’ve finished everything (actually you should do this for all onsens you go to). Bring your own towels. It...More

Tattoos are okay. Water and sand onsens available at a great price. Traditional onsen is very nice, with indoor and outdoor pools. The restaurant has great traditional Japanese food!
