Have been to several Onsen sites in Beppu, the smell of Myoban was definitely the strongest. The spring was somewhat white (similar to but a bit lighter than milk). There were two popular outdoor Onsen, one by Myoban Yu no Sato and the other by Okamotoya. The price was 600 yen and 500 yen respectively. If you have time, I... More

Out of all the places we have visited in Japan, including major cities like Tokyo, this onsen is among my top five choices. The location is a quick and cheap bus ride away. Just take the local bus from Beppu. The place is easily identifiable by the large main building at the front. Beyond the entrance are a few stands... More

JNTO mentions nothing in their .PDF files but if you Google their site they do have a short feature about it. I had been to Beppu around 4-5 times and never knew about this place because it is somewhat north of the city. I found it on the way to the Safari Park via rental car. It was obviously a... More

If you grew up like me watching japanese Anime you cannot miss the chance to make an open air onsen experience. This place IS the place. You'll take a bath in a hot and steamy water pond over looking a takebreathing view of Beppu with its green and flowered hills... you will stand there naked, with your body fuming and... More

We went to Myoban onsen village for a visit but we never try their onsen. Instead, we opted to try Onsen Hoyoland for their Mud onsen. The sulphur is very strong in Myoban. We could see the steams coming out from literally everywhere from the ground. We went to see the hut where they collected the onsen crystal. I would... More

The onsen is located in an old quarter untouched by pachinkos and slots. The onsen is authentic and simple, just made of a bath illuminated by a single window.

Myoban onsen is an area up in the north of Beppu up on a hillside. We visited Yu no Sato, which was a lovely outdoor onsen on the hill with great views over Beppu to the sea. Unfortunately the views are only accessible if you stand up and look over the fence at the washing area, not actually from the... More
