Very busy at New Year. Crowds pouring over the causeway to the shrine. This island has very unusual stone formations in the shallow sea. Not many people seemed to be bothering to walk all around the island but it is worth doing and doesn't take...More

I'm 6/3 and about 200 lbs (~90 kilos). Walking across the causeway to this island I was glad for every ounce (or gram). There was a relentless wind of about 60 mph (~100 kph). I was actually worried that some of the smaller folks walking...More

A 30 mins train ride from Miyazaki station. Nice view of the beach area. The Famous Devils Washboard and the Aoshima Temple is located on the island. Take a slow walk across the bridge and view the natural rock formations that looks like washboards. Nice...More

Aoshima is a small island just of the coast but connected to the mainland by a bridge. I took the train to get there which takes about half an hour. From Aoshima station it takes another 5 till 10 minutes to reach the bridge. The...More

A very pleasant walk around the island can be accomplished in half an hour to an hour. The highlight was definitely the shrine in the middle, with a jungle-like feel. The palm trees are also a nice touch. Worth an hour of your timer if...More

We walking from Aoshima beach to Island. You can see a lot of natural rock everywhere. The rock is interesting & particular. There’s no car can enter to this island. You must park your car in the parking area before go.

The Aoshima Island is a must see for first time visitors. The small island is surrounded by natural rock formations known as “devil’s washboard”. When you walk across the bridge to the island, you can choose to follow the round the island path on either...More

The volcanic rock formations are unusual, in a similar vein to the Giants Causeway in Antrim in Ireland. The shrine on the island nothing special. However the wooden train that leaves from Miyazaki is worth booking and taking.

It was a cold but wonderfully sunny Christmas Day when we visited which made it just perfect. We loved the ambience in the temple and really liked wandering across the fascinating rock formations, the devil's washboard. We took countless photos of the red torii gate...More

此処は日南海岸国定公園内で、かつ神社庁の管轄内なので決められた範囲以外は立ち入り禁止の様です。その為キャンプ等は禁止られていますし、火を焚くことも当然出来ません。残念でしょうが、理解しましょうね。
