Went to Kumamoto castle and it was still under restoration due to the 2016 earthquake. But nevertheless we are still glad we managed to catch a glimpse of the castle.

Most of the castle is still in pretty bad shape during our visit in June 2019. Much repair work need to be done. It seems like the new castle is being built using concrete.

Part of Kumamoto Castle will be opened on 5 Oct2019 in time for the Rugby World Cup 2019 Japan, of which Kumamoto is the host city.

Even though the earthquake from 2016 struck hard on the castle, it is still beautiful to visit. The stories there are unique. The future looks bright for what they are building. Definately a must see when you visit kumamoto

Castle guided tour has been resumed since 17th June.Tour route is temporary so far.

You can goto ticket office at main entrance by taxi or bus. After that, you can goto Castle without stairs but slightly upward slope. There is a short but very steep slope when you get closer to the castle. My parents in law... More
