Yunohira Lookout is the closest you can get to Sakurajima itself. If you take the sightseeing bus, you will stop at the lookout for about 15 mins which is just enough time for taking photos etc. When we went, we had a lovely bus driver who took photos for us and tried to tell us about Sakurajima. If you are... More

The bus stops there long enough to take a few pictures but, wheather allowing, il can be worth staying longer to enjoy the place and walk back down to the harbour or waith for the next bus.

Yunohira Observatory is the highest point that is accessible to the public. the best way to get there is the Island View bus. Other than a small convenience store, there is not much there. It's all about the views. You're at the edge of the lava fields staring up to the peak of Mt. Sakurajima. In the opposite direction you... More

The bus will stop here for 15-20 mins, so everyone could go up to the observatory and have look at Sakurajima and Kagoshima city on another side. It'd be more beautiful if I went there on a clear sky day, anyway, it's still fantastic.

This place offers a top of the world experience. You need to pray for good wind direction so that the ashes from the volcano is not blowing towards you! Else you will be shrouded with ashes and no view!

At the top of the Sakurajima mountains is the Yunohira lookout which provides beautiful panoramic views of Kagoshima and the base of the Sakurajima mountains. This is one of the must stops for any bus or car tour of Kagoshima. Provides stunning opportunities for photos and will be the highlight of your day on Sakurajima.

This location is 373 m above sea level and is supposed to be the closest access point to the crater. Great for a close clear shot of the crater. Thanks to a Japanese guide who pointed out a heart-shaped stone to us. There are supposed to be 7 hidden hearts on the walls. No time for "hearts hunting" if you... More

You can see the mountain and Kagoshima city. Good view, but the lookout is not a must, because it is just another view point. So I recommend that you take a walk at the seaside near the visitor center and see the view, if you don't have much time at the island. To go to Yunohira Lookout, you have to... More
