We bought a 4-hour tour of the island, from the main train station. The only problem was that the whole tour was in Japanese, despite being advertised in English at the station. Next time, we will definitely pay closer attention. Nevertheless the island is certainly...More

With the looming bulk of Sakurajima behind me and the glittering bay of Kagoshima in front, soaking my tired feet at the Nagisa Park Onsen footbaths was simply out of this world! Frequent ferries leave Kagoshima pier for Sakurajima that can be visited with the...More

We were driving and we boarded the ferry with the car we rented. With a 30-minute ride on a ferry, we arrived in no time and enjoyed a trip to a volcanic island where the volcano is still emitting smoke with minor explosion often. The...More

wished we had more time when we visited Sakurajima. Without your own transport/car, it could be a barrier to mvoe around as i think there are quite a few spots that we could have visited. Could have spend 1 full day here.

It's worth going to Kagoshima just for Sakurajima alone. This active volcano is visible from most parts of Kagoshima and the volcanic dust that lies around everywhere is evidence that this is definitely an active volcano. Kagoshima is very easy to get around as overseas...More

Perhaps it would have been more impressive if it had some eruptions when I visited. As a island, Jeju is more extensive, has better sights. The island looks somewhat similar. Nonetheless, it was a pleasant trip. Do get the CUTE pass because it would cover...More

Yes, you can. Price list of the car ferry is here. If you drive an ordinary car, you are suppose to pay less than 2000yen for a car.
