I got a CUTE pass in Kagoshima, so I could take the Sakurajima lsland tour bus. It only takes an hour. You don't need any longer, as the bus waits for you at all the interesting places. It was really quiet at 9am, the first bus. I got back to the ferry at ten, and hung around for the 60/70... More

Everyone told us to go there, it is number 1 on TripAdvisor things to do list. I have officially decided to stay away from number 1 on the list for every city from now on. It usually over promises but fails to deliver. There is so much potential for sakurajima, I just felt it needed more development, more transport options,... More

You can get reach to here by ferry which is operated in every 15mins. Jump on the tour bus that drop off at different points at Sakurajima. Nice visit and get close to the volcano in clear sky!

Tourism infrastructure on this island is not great. There are extremely limited options to get around the island which is a shame as the island could be a lot more fun. The Sakurajima island view bus goes only to a small area of the island. There is one bus an hour. Plus point is some stops have a stopover time... More

The bus ride was disappointing, claustrophobic , short stops. Much better to stroll aong the seashore path. Nowhere to hve beer and watch the water.

I took the bus up to the Yunohiro Observatory and walked down to the ferry terminal. It's a hike but a great day trip.

Central feature of Kagoshima. One might question the logic of visiting an active volcano on an island where there would be no escape* in case of a sudden eruption, but this place is beautiful and offers great views. I was reassured it was (quite) safe however, and surprisingly, people actually lived there! *a previous eruption connected the Southwest part of... More

Had fun on the crowded sightseeing bus, and biking the lava path. Would not rent a car and do a whole day thing if you're trying to choose between several options.

Honestly, it was a bit boring. There were obviously not enough tourist attraction here. Still, it was one of the must visit in Kagoshima.

This is a pretty island, it is also a volcano all it needs is a Bond villain to be totally over the top! We enjoyed the day we spent here and it is a unique experience. The bus that takes you to the various sights is worth doing as is the visitor centre.
