Of course the many deer are a huge draw to the amazing temple, its importance as one of the Seven Great Temples can't be understated. It houses the world largest bronze state of Buddha which is extremely impressive. Interesting that the entire project which consisted of 2,600,000 workers and opened in 752 almost bankrupted Japan's economy. Yes, worth the visit.

Took a little to get to by public transport but well worth the effort. Everything here is big the gates the stairs the building the doors then you see the statue of Buddha and it all makes sense. It's in the middle of the Nara park. Make the effort to come to Nara and here you won't regret it

Diapointed with Nara to be Honest Buddha was impressive in the large temple where it sits but for me the rest of Nara wasn't that interest in maybe because we were shrined out by the time we visited . Nice to see tame deer Bowing to tourists for food

Historic monument with several statues besides the 50 foot high covered Buddha. Even on a weekday, crowded with domestic and international tourists along with numerous school groups. A "must see" in Nara. Surrounded by Nara park and over 1,200 deer roaming. We combined this visit with a trip to the Nara National Museum and lunch at Kikusuiro. In the afternoon... More

If your first reason to go Nara to see the deer then this should be on your second list. What a huge wooden temple! They also sell many things (handkerchief, key holder, etc) inside can buy it as souvenirs as the price was okay. Really enjoy my time here. Indeed best temple in Nara!!

Temple located at Nara park which is about 10mins of bus ride from JR station. Suggest you purchase a Nara bus pass (500Yen) at the Nara JR station, so will make some saving when visit another 2 temple after Todai-ji. 10 mins walk from the bus stop at Nara park to Todai-Ji, but walking journey will not be bored as... Daibutsuden is the largest wooden building in Japan, which houses the largest bronze Buddha statue in Japan. Even with crazy crowds of people all day long, this is still definitely worth a visit when in Nara. Go all the way around to see Buddha and his guardians from all angles to appreciate the scale of this work.

This is a must see if you are exploring Nara Park. There are huge statues in a large temple. The entrance fee wasn't so high.
