Learned quite a bit about the history of Nara while here. We took advantage of the free English language guide, who explained how the temple was rebuilt multiple times to 6th century specs. We saw statues from 1400s and before, including a Buddha head saved from 6th century. Amazing history and reasonable admission fee. Recommended, especially if you're into Buddhism... More

Things are certainly looking up....or need to if a visitor wishes to enjoy this towering pagoda as well as the surrounding buildings. Presently, the main building is under covered scaffolding.

While there's nothing much to do around the Kofukuji Temple, the 5-storey pagoda is nevertheless breath-taking! It is just so perfect and somehow you'll find some peace and serenity just by looking at it. The park area is really vast so you'll have enough space and a nice backdrop for photo ops. And unlike other temples or castles that sits... More

Beautiful temple located within the Nara Park. This is well known for it's Five Story Pagoda, which is said to be the second tallest pagoda in Japan (The tallest being the one in Toji Temple, Kyoto). This is also known to be a main landmark and the symbol of Nara with a great history that runs way back to 730... More

Beautiful area where there are a few things to see. You have the shrine with the bell Nanendo on one side and the main Kofukuji Temple and the five Tiered pagoda on the other. Really amazing wooden structures that just look so old. The Pagoda was very impressive, large and stable.

It's connected to the park and peaceful. There's some buildings close by each other. Could be crowded with tourist during weekend.
