Treasures

The main hall houses the impressive statue of the Buddha and 2 bodhisattvas. Very inspiring but the treasure hall's Kannon statue is even more breathtaking.

We were walking back to Nara station and saw this temple. Took a short stroll inside. Worth catching a glimpse of pagoda which was built in 730!! Other than pagoda the rest may not be that interesting for tourist.

A nice change from the usual Japanese shrine architecture. This is a 5 storey pagoda and beside it a traditional Japanese temple architecture. Many deers and you can buy food to feed them. They seem very tamed and used to people and food. The males have their antlers removed.

The Central Golden Hall of this temple complex was under renovation when we visited so the main feature for visitors here are the two pagodas. They are striking. One is three stories the other five. The five story pagoda is a National Treasures originally erected in AD 730 and rebuilt in 1426. That said we did not consider the fee... More

The main thing to see here is the "second highest" pagoda of Japan (the first one is at Toji Temple in Kyoto that I got to two days earlier) on the main temple grounds above a high ground (just a short walk up the stairs); apart from the pagoda, there's the main temple building (paid entry, but no pictures allowed... Situated alongside Horyu-ji Temple (5 story pagoda) , it has some interesting items attached to the Buddha and was founded in 669AD. Outside the temple are good views of the pagoda

This is a nice temple with pagodas. Just outside is also a nice pond with turtles in it. All in all nice and serene

Not a must see. Over-priced. Just skip on to todaiji and other better attractions. Pagoda is free for entry but the queue is tremendous. Go early if you plan to go in!

Kofukuji is one of the eight monuments which are jointly listed as the World Heritage Site formally known as The Historic Mounments of Nara. It is situated on top of a hill near the Deer Park and it boasts an intriguing collection of monuments. There is a 13th century octagonal pavilion, the stone bases of former temples and two historic... More
