We walked all the way down from Nara JR station and at the end of Sanjo Dori, there was a waterpond with turtles and some landscapes around. A nice stop prior to proceed to Kofuku-ji Temple. There were many noodle shops around and may be...More

Really nothing special about that ugly, muddy pond... I don't know what is the big deal with it. You will surely pass by when going to the historic district, but don't make it be the goal of your trip ;)

Do sit down by the pond under the trees to get some shade on a sunny day and maybe mingle with the locals. You get beautiful views towards the Kofukuji. There are turtles in the pond also to keep you interested.

Sarusawa Pond is located beside Kofukuji Temple, and many tourists passes by. The water is not really clean, but you can find some fish and tortoises here. It is a good place to take a rest.

A large pond situated between Nara Park and the Naramachi area. Some nice views can be had whilst sitting and relaxing for a little while. Try and spot the many small turtles that live in the pond.
