The location of the Hokke-do is not ideal, and the shrine itself is not very attractive. It is easy to pass by or just stop at the nearby praying place.

There is an impressive and very old statue of Guan Yin or Kannon in this place. Apparently it's over a thousand years old. There are also the four heavenly kings that are also very old. But it is an impressive sight. The only problem with this place is that they charge 5 dollars for admission, just to see those statues. Nothing else lol. I got my eighth goshuin here. It has a blazing buddha stamp seal.

It's known as Sangatsudo in Japan, a part of a very large Todaiji Temple complex. When you come see the Great Buddha, you should see all the temples in the complex.

For us This unique place turned to be a great discovery during a day-trip to Nara. After visiting Nigatsu-do we’ve seen it by chance and decided to visit it.
We payed the entrance fee of 500 yen without having a slightest idea of what could be inside but when we got there, we didn’t regret it one bit! This temple houses ancient life-size statues dating back to the VIIIth century! Even if you are not a connoisseur of the Buddhist art, you couldn’t help but feeling struck by their artistic quality and individuality! Some statues radiate calm dignity, others are expressive to the utmost (the guardians).
The exposition is not a particularly large one (about ten statues), but it’s so impressive I would recommend to contemplate it with no hurry. Besides, there are small explanatory booklets in English that will give you some necessary information. The only thing to sigh about is that taking photos inside is prohibited.

Hokke-do, also called Sangatsu-do, is located near Nagatsu-do. Since this building requires an admission ticket, I just took a look from outside. Next time, I would like to visit inside if I have enough time.

It's really just another temple, very small, however it is the oldest temple around. If you're not here for the religious meaning but as a tourist you may very well pass it by.
