The different landscapes within this lovely garden are clearly separated, making it a great overall introduction to the many styles perfected over the centuries. Especially beautiful too during autumn when splashes of red are everywhere. It's a feast for the eyes.

I wasn't expecting too much here in autumn, especially with some less positive write ups about it being a relatively new built. I was amazed by it's beauty with the autumn foliage in this well planned and constructed garden. That pond, hosting many colorful and...More

Going to the gardens in winter may seem like a silly decision, but year-end is our only time to travel, so we still decided to visit it. A lot of the plants were bare, and there was not a lot of flowers to see, as...More

Can add it into your castle ticket! Seriously worth walking the extra 250m when you leave the castle to go and have a look! Superb gardens and very pleasing to the eye, so many different scenes of gardens too see, not just one. You can...More

It was nice to stroll through Kokoen, it was very beautiful and well taken care of by the gardeners. The restaurant here serves wonderful Japanese meals at a reasonable price. Although crowded with tourists, it is possible to take photographs of the gardens if you're...More

I'm sure the gardens are lovely all year round, but the explosion of reds, yellows and ambers from the autumn leaves was so beautiful it was breathtaking. Beautifully designed waterfall garden is the highlight at this time of year.

The gardens are located a 5 minute walk from Himeji castle as you cross the moat and turn right. Only constructed in 1992, the attraction consists of a series of themed areas so there is a lot of variety in quite a small area. Only...More

A series of about 12 smallish themed gardens. Really pretty and well worth a visit. You can buy a ticket that covers both the garden and Himeji Castle. To get to the garden, come out of the castle, cross the moat, turn right and walk...More

It is open only during daylight hours according to its website. That was certainly the case when we visited it.
