When entering the grounds of Himeji Castle, my two year old son screamed excitedly “ANIMALS!!!” He has seen the sign for Himeji City Zoo. My husband and I decided we’d go to the zoo before going to the Castle and boy, wasn’t that a bad...More
As many people already stressed out, this zoo is a nightmare. I was delighted by my visit of Himeji city; the streets are clean, beautiful, the castle is simply splendid, the garden next to it is both gorgeous and intimate... But all these good impressions...More
TL;DR: Zoo has cheap entrance price for a reason. Poor maintainence of animals gives a sad and disgusting feeling after visit.

We were terribly saddened to see the polar bears pacing around baby size cage that was no larger than a typical bachelor apartment. It was clearly that they were both in a highly stressed state. We expected more from a first world country, especially knowing...More
For children it is always interesting to see animals. The zoo is not as modern as we are used to at home (Netherlands). They could write more information on the boards where the names of the animals are written on.
At the end of the...More
