It is a tram that connects the north and east of Tokyo. Trams run through old residential areas mainly located in downtown Tokyo. Its size was small and only one car, the running speed was not fast. It might be a good way to relax and enjoy the view of Tokyo.

The Toden-Arakawa Line is a streetcar line in Tokyo, operated by the Tokyo Metropolitan Bureau of Transportation (Toei). It operates on a 13 KM stretch between Minowabashi station and Waseda Station. A singe trip takes around 50 minutes. The Line operates in northern and eastern Tokyo outside the main tourist areas.

If you want an authentic Japanese experience in the center of the largest city in the world, you should try the Toden Arakawa Line. It takes you places you would never see otherwise and will bring you into contact with the little bit that exists of pre-World War II Japan. When boarding the train ask for the Toden Ichinichi Joshaken... More

You can get here quite easily from Nippori station (which is on the Yamanote line). Transfer to the Keisei line and go to Machiya Station. Walk a few meters to the Machiyaekimae Station, where you ill get on the Toden-Awakawa line to Minowabashi Station. Once you get to Minowabashi Station, nearby is the Joyful Minowa shopping street, with a few... More

We found the nearest stop to our hotel and although I was a little nervous about asking the driver for a one day pass he understood me perfectly and 400¥ is small change in Tokyo. We hopped on and off the tram to explore. Go to the end of the line at Minowabashi walk a little distance and turn left... More

Spent the whole day riding the Streetcar and getting and off various stations. Buy the whole day ticket 400 yen. Streetcars run every 5 or so minutes so it's easy to get off, take a walk, look around and return to the station. Roses along the line were in bloom so looked amazing. Loved walking the neighbourhoods and seeing how... More

We travelled with TODEN on January 22nd 2016, from the terminal station at Minowabashi to Jizo dori. The tram was almost empty we could enjoy the view of several Tokyo s wards and the ways of older passengers. The streetcar bells that ring DING DING at every crossing, the streetcar stopping at a red light just like a car the... More

I love this 'ting ting' tram. The rows of roses on either side of the line are nice touches, making it romantic but the best parts were the various stops we made and explored. We met nice locals, curious school children and friendly hostess of a sushi bar (Yanagawa Sushi and Restaurant, Waseda which unfortunately not found on TripAdvisor, tried... More

Streecars which used to be so prominent in Tokyo are now nearly all sadly gone. The last line is this - the Toden Arakawa Line. The terminus at Minowa is a good place to board, perhaps after a visit to the nearby Kozukappara execution grounds which are a 10 minute walk away. The other terminus is on the north side... More

The Toden will take you past places where tourists rarely frequent, past houses and old bits of Tokyo which are interesting simply because of their age. Tokyo being Tokyo, you'll be hard pressed to find much which is classically Tokyo. Most of the people taking the Toden are old and that's because of the neighbourhoods it passes. You can start...
