Japan is a different "world" and the Yokohama Bay Bridge is just another true example fo that. It was like the brother of the Rainbow Bridge in Tokyo.

I cruise a lot and have transited under many bridges. But this one in Yokohama is only surpassed by the one departing Copenhagen in my estimation for excitement.
I'm sure glad the Captain knows exactly how tall the tallest point on the ship ... and the lowest point on the Bridge ... are. Because neither departing Yokohama or Copenhagen did he ever slow down or creep under them. But a disaster could occur if his calculations weren't spot on.
I was on one of the upper decks, but not the tallest one as we went under Yokohama. But a bunch of people wanted to get as far up as they could go. Scary if the Skipper's calculations were wrong.
So for those of you that have not traveled UNDER a bridge on a near 1,000 foot long ship ... I've attached some time lapse photos taken off my video cam you may enjoy.
And make sure to look at the people up on top as we were going under the bridge. Notice where THEY are looking. All at the near miss.
It's a shame I couldn't attach the audio of the ship's horn blowing. This Captain really must have enjoyed laying on it as I'm sure it blew for 10 or more seconds. I guess the Captain enjoyed going under the Yokohama Bridge as much the rest of us ......

What a bridge - it is very big and yet, if you are on a ship going under it, not big enough. It is one of those times when you hold your breath as you see the top of the ship go through with only the smallest of margins.

We got to see the bridge for a few days from different distances as we waited aboard ship in Yokohama bay for a storm to pass so that our cruise could proceed. There is a toll to cross over, but not under, the bridge.

We stayed in Yokohama for a few days and everywhere we went, we saw different angles of the stunning Bay Bridge - although the best view was from our hotel window - day and night! We drove over it a couple of times and also saw it from Yamashita Park, the Red Brick Warehouses and the shipping terminals (International Passenger terminal and Daikoku Pier). You can’t miss it .. it is such a large, busy, prominent and pretty bridge.

I have viewed this bridge both during the day and evening. It is most intriquing at night when it is lit up. It has a magic of its own in the evening. Very much a part of the Yokohama harbor scene connecting two land points.

This was a great bridge and marvel of modern engineering when we saw this from afar and gazed in amazement at the Japanese ingenuity - it just stretches so far and seems to be unreal in its look or that’s how it seemed to me at least.

The bay bridge at Yokohama is an iconic structure. Viewed from the bay front areas at multiple places in Yokohama, Kawasaki.
Few of the prominent viewing places are the Osanbashi passenger terminal deck, Yamashita park, Minato Mirai or take a sea bus cruise over the Yokohama bay to get close by.
It is a cable stayed bridge as a part of the bayshore route with a span of 460 metres. The bridge has been operational since 1989.

At the end of cruise I need to get to Tokyo. What is my best option to avoid expensive taxi fares. Is there a shuttle bus into yokohama?
