I am seeing reviews posted recently but the ropeway has been closed since May due to volcanic activity. It is not expected to reopen in the near future. The majority of Hakone area is not affected however and is safe to visit. Check websites for...More

Much disappointment that the Ropeway isn't operating in peak season due to the recent volcanic activity. However we were impressed with the temporary arrangements to get from Sounzan to Togendai and the sightseeing pirate ship. There are buses running a temporary service regularly (about every...More

Lovely scenic way to get up the mountain, shame when I got to the top it was covered in mist. If you are going to visit check the weather before hand otherwise you will be disappointed. You can see the mist in my photos. Also...More

We enjoyed our scenic ride on the two Hakone Ropeways that connect the railway from Gora and the Lake Ashi boat trips. Scenic views - very efficiently run. Recommend booking it as part of the Hakone Free Pass.

Departed from Hakone Yumoto and went the usual route: Hakone Tozan train to Gora, ropeway to Owakudani and finally to Lake Ashi to borad a boat accross the lake. All made very easy while busy. Enjoyable journey on a clear day.

The Ropeway takes you up to the top where if you are lucky and the sky is clear you can see the top of Mount Fuji.

We took the Ropeway as a part of a day circle around Hakone. We used the Hakone Free Pass which was very comfortable. The Termic Park in the middle of the Ropeway is very interesting and you might catch an exciting view of Mount Fuji,...More

We took the ropeway to Owakudani and to the lake. It was on a weekday and there was no queue at all at the three different stations we boarded the cable car.

Do not miss this. FABULOUS fun! Loved riding over the steaming vents... and smelling them, too! The pass is great value and included a boat cruise with people from all over the world, including school children who interviewed us to practice their English. Go and...More

Great views over the sulphur fields, Lake Ashi and (if not cloudy) Mount Fuji. They don’t allow too many people in the cars so it’s not claustrophobic and the ride is smooth. If you collect stamps, each station on the ropeway has a different stamp.
