Had an amazing 2+ hours here. Gorgeous grounds, plenty of nooks and crannies to explore along with open spaces full of contemporary sculptures. Very appropriate for young children -- our 3-yr-old had a wonderful time and didn't want to leave. This place is worth a day trip from Tokyo all by itself.

First and foremost, I'm not an art expert but there is something special about walking in a nice outdoor setting among beautiful art pieces. You can easily spend a couple of hours strolling the grounds and taking the time to admire the work.

Came upon this museum somewhat randomly and wound up spending 4 hours here. The Picasso wing was amazing and the grounds and outdoor sculptures are so interesting. Onsen foot bath on-site and two restaurants. A must-see in Hakone

We visited the Hakone open air Museum while spending a couple of nights in the area and what a great decision that was. The main exhibition of sculptures or world renown artists is within an immaculate Japanese garden/park and all beautiful exhibited among lovely cherry and pine trees which includes among others quite a number of Henry Moore pieces. A... More

We only had an hour and so thought we would swing by. What an amazing place. Obviously we should have allowed twice as much time or more. The setting is wonderful and the collection of sculptures is top notch. Not to be missed when in Hakone.

We finished our two week visit to Japan with a 2-day stay in the Hakone area. We felt that the region is way over-rated as far as a tourist destination. HOWEVER, we were lucky enough to happen upon the Hakone Open Air Museum by chance, and are we glad we did. This is one of the most impressive outdoor museums... More

Worth doing if you are in Hakone. There are alot of sculptures art and things to look at, but they are not really specific to Japan. Worth doing if you have 2-3 hours free.

It was a wonderful place and the art was amazing. It takes about an hour and a half, and if you are planning to do all the round trip in Hakone, it can be a little tight with the schedule.

The wife and I spent a couple hours hanging out amongst these fantastic sculptures in this wonderful outdoor landscape. Easily reachable by the Hakone-Tozan line, it's worth a stop if you're in the area. It felt like a bit of a jewel in the high mountains and was really enjoyable.

My family and I enjoyed the Hakone Open-Air Museum, especially the kids climbing gym, which was amazing. We also loved the stained glass building that you could climb to the rooftop of as well as the foot bath. I just wish that there was more for kids to climb on, being that there are so many outdoor sculptures. It looked... More
