It was quite chilly and windy at the top; but a very peaceful walk. There were very few people, a quiet corner of Japan we very much enjoyed.

The view of Mt Fuji san was clear and unobstructed. The trails were well marked with uneven steps. Good shoes needed. There were elderly travellers having a difficult time on the rocky paths. Air was fresh and crisp.

Komagatake Ropeway is certainly better than Hakone ropeway is is less crowded. You can see Mount Fuji right in front. The old Hakone shrine and rough trails offering view all the way to Pacific Ocean from Kamagatake mountain is just serene ! we were fortunate to take the ride on a clear day to enjoy the scenery.

The ropeway is not covered in Hakone pass but do offer 10% discount with the pass.

We took the Lake Ashi boat ride and got off at Hakone-en. 30min lake side walk from Hakone-en to Komagatake Ropeway is very scenic too if you have time.

Recommend to stay at Ryuguden Ryokan Kanagawa or Hotel Prince, both are just 2 mins away from the Komagatake Ropeway and area itself is great for walks around.

This is A ropeway with excellent views during and post journey. We took this combo of bus, cruise and a ropeway tour. We were delighted that we took this tour. The ropeway provides a glimpse of Mt Fuji on one side and the beautigul Hakone Lake on the other side.

Cable car up the mountain was dated, and the infrastructure looks like it needs some TLC and a coat of paint, but the view from the top is just awesome, especially Fuji-san (Mt Fuji), but also seeing the full expanse of Lake Ashi and even the Tokyo skyline in the distance. Its a pity that the ropeway is not part of the Hakone Free Pass - we had to catch a bus from Togendai to Hakone-en (only JPY470) because the ferry had closed, then there its another JPY1300 each up (and back) on the ropeway. Very cold on top - 3C + wind chill, but well worth the views.

Part of the Hakone loop, the ropeway takes you down to Lake Ashi, where you can do a pleasant cruise. Fine weather should also give you views of Mt Fuji.

Well organised but dated cable car ride (called a ropeway so don’t be misled). Stunning views over lake Ashi and surrounding area as well as spectacular views on the left going up on a clear day back to Mount Fuji. Small souvenir shop at the summit with cars leaving up and down every 20 minutes. At the base station lots of shops, aquarium, pet zoo and cafes as well as connecting cruise boats and amphibious duck vehicle to take you up and down the lake. Well worth a trip on a clear or part clear day.

As part of our 1-day Hakone and Mount Fuji, this ropeway experience was part of the itinerary.

On the day of our visit, it was cloudy and gloomy (and of course very chilly and cold since it was below 0 degree celsius). Our tour group of over 35 waited and took the 2nd ropeway up the hill. It was extremely crowded as there were other tour groups and tourists. Fortunately the ride was that long (less than 10 mins) or we were to be "sardine fish". The frequency was supposed to be a 20-min interval.

Upon arrival on the top, there was a small gift store selling souvenirs and visitors could take a walk outside and follow the track to the Shinto shrine. However, as it was extremely cold, drizzling and chilly with strong winds blowing hard, many people didn't want to walk to the shrine. It was also cloudy and could not see clearly. So most gathered round the gift store and to keep warm (as there was a heater). There was much to do or see there.

We were supposed to come down to the foot by 3.40pm and a queue was formed. But it was delayed to beyond 4pm, possibly because of poor weather condition. Eventually we took the ropeway at around 4.15pm and then all of a sudden, the weather made a turn to "clear and fine".

The clouds were gone, the sun came out and rain had stopped and the view was clear and nice. It's top of the world view. Awesome! It was then we had hope that if the fine weather could come earlier, we would have walked to the Shinto Shrine for a visitation!

Overall it was a satisfying and nice trip here but dependent on the extreme weather to either "make or break" your sightseeing experience and weather changes quite promptly too!

There aren’t many things to do in Hakone (rightly so, given the beautiful lake and onsen), but this ride promised the best view of Mt Fuji, so we were hoping for a clearing in the clouds.

Unfortunately, it didn’t happen, so we paid for a ride on a very dated cable car, arriving at an even more dated tower at the top of the mountain. They should spend a little money and dress up the place, given it is a tourist stop.

At the top, there is a half hour walk to the shrine, but given the cloud cover that prevented any good photos and the temperatures dropping a few degrees to near zero, we opted out.

A tour group came up just as we were leaving and they spent 5 minutes before doing a u-turn and coming down.

I would imagine the view of Lake Ashi and Mount Fuji would be great, but sadly, was not to be.

Unfortunately, we were covered in fog / clouds when we went took out Ropeway trip to the top. It is wonderful to see all the great pictures taken by other Trip Advisors of the views that they enjoyed. We live vicariously through them.

The Ropeway (I would call it a Tram) was smooth and convenient.

But allow me to going back to enjoy the pictures that other TAs have taken ....

Our hotel (Prince Hakone) was located next door to the Komagatake Ropeway and we were advised that it is something you must do to get spectacular view of Mount Fuji. The trips up and down were very easy with hardly any queues although the cable cars were a bit crowded (try to get in early so you have a window view).
Sadly when we arrived at the top Mount Fuji was almost covered in cloud, this kept shifting giving us tantalising glimpses of the mountain but we never had a totally clear view. I can certainly believe that the view will be very special on a clear day based on the bits we did see. There is also a famous shrine at the top of the mountain (which could do with a bit of paint) plus good views of the surrounding countryside and Lake Ashi.
