Our friends highly recommended visiting this shop. We were not disappointed.....If you love glassware, wine glasses, sake glasses, glass ware of all designs.......we got some sake glasses & shoyu (soy sauce) dripless dispensers.........Plan on spending at least an hour or 2........

This places has multiple levels of glass shops in one building. All of the items are gorgeous, of course. You cannot take photos, which I really wanted to do. They had glass dollhouses - one Japanese style, one huge Victorian style - which are worth going in to see! We had a hard time narrowing down what to buy! They... More

Kitaichi is the primary glassware shop in Otaru. They sell everything from cups, little ornaments, decorations, and just anything you can think of made of glass

Nice souvenir - temperature changing cup (complete w scenic views unique to Otaru). There is a man that will demonstrate to you how it changes colour in hot and/or cold water. My kids bought one each. Not expensive. Amazing service and packaging. We were quite awed with the simple act of covering the paperback with plastic (so that the snow... More

This well-preserved and maintained building now houses a glass store and a restaurant that is lit with only kerosene lamps. It's conveniently close to a parking area where you can get free parking... This particular shop has a larger web presence, but there actually are numerous little shops along these streets. I really liked Kitaichi, though. They had great glass dishes and decorations. I'd buy something again just to watch them wrap it!
