There are many ferries connecting Hokkaido and Honshu, but the Tsugaru Kaikyo Ferry ferry between Hakodate and Oma that we used this time is the shortest, connecting Hokkaido and Honshu in 90 minutes.

We took the ferry that departed Hakodate at 9:30. At the ferry terminal there was a gate called "Smart Check-in," and we were able to complete the check-in process by simply holding the QR code that was emailed to us when we made our reservation over the machine while remaining in our car. We then proceeded to the waiting area and followed the instructions of the staff to board the ferry.

On the way back, we took a new service that started this October from Aomori to Muroran. The voyage took nearly seven hours, so we were able to get a quick nap.

Went to Hokkaido with my lovely partner Harley Havidson. Bought an upgrade seat of View Seat at sir charge only at a few hundred JP yen. It was like a business class of flat reclining chair over viewing ahead with 180 degree. After a long trip by bike I fell in sleep when coming back to Aomori.

If you're traveling between Aomori and Hakodate and have the time this ferry is a great option. It's a bit costly to take a car but cheap for just passengers. I recommend booking the "View Seat" option so you can relax in a reclining chair with a view straight out the front over the bow. The ferry has some amenities such as a small gift shop, lots of vending machines, microwave ovens, hot water pots, and showers. The ride is only just under 4 hours so you won't need much more. In nice weather you can go out on deck but there are no chairs outside. Book online and use the QR code on a smartphone; you'll save 10% and can get a ticket from a terminal kiosk in less than 20 seconds!

When I go on my annual Hokkaido tour, I used to mainly use Shin Nihonkai Ferry, and I was very satisfied with the service on board, the menu of Reltran, and the response.
This year, instead of traveling from Niigata to Otaru with Shin Nihonkai Ferry, I planned with a few friends to change things up and land in Hokkaido at Hakodate from Aomori.
When we boarded in Aomori, the work of fixing the motorcycle began immediately in the dark, and while I was casually glancing at the work, I continued to take the luggage off the motorcycle and headed straight to the cabin.
After disembarking in Hakodate about three hours later, I looked at the tank under the bright sky and found two scratches on the left and right of the tank. I quickly parked my motorcycle in a nearby place where it was easy to park, searched for the inquiry phone number of Tsugaru Kaikyo Ferry, and contacted them.
A young man answered the phone instead of the woman who answered the phone, and when I explained the situation, he initially said, "I can't help you unless you go while we're on board."
I replied, "There's no way you could tell in the dark," and he said, "Can you come to the terminal so we can check the damage?" So I hurried back to the terminal to meet him.
Soon the person in charge arrived, and while he was taking photos, it was clear that he couldn't make a judgment, and then the person in charge of securing the bike to the boat came and, after a brief look, declared, "This isn't a scratch on our part. Also, when securing the bike, we secure the belt to the bike's (an option for off-road bikes) guard (...if it's not an off-road bike, where would you put the belt around??)."
However, remembering the time when I was watching the securing process upon boarding the boat, I said, "When you do this, you secure it to the bike's pedal, and usually you put a blanket over the tank before you secure the belt, but you didn't put a blanket on," and he suddenly admitted it was "our mistake," and told the young man in charge, "This will be covered by insurance."
After that, the person in charge called me and asked me to send a copy of the vehicle inspection certificate and an estimate, so I sent them by express mail with delivery confirmation and received a postal letter saying that it had been received, but even after a week has passed, I still have not received any contact about whether it has been received or what the next step in the process will be.

Took the ferry from Hakodate to Oma. About a 90 min trip. Good view of Hakodate and Mt Hakodate upon departure. Once out of the harbor..i'm not sure about the view - went back to our open floor seating and got busy with conversation. Very smooth sailing over - seemed like the trip was quicker than 90 min.
Upgraded seating was only 200 or 300 yen, so some took advantage of that. Beverages available on board, and I'm sure some snacks but I wasn't interested in eating so can't say for sure what / or pricing.

2024.07Wednesday / Tsugaru Strait Ferry (Aomori-Akita trip, Hokkaido)
[Time required] 3 hours 40 minutes [Cost] 18,700 yen per person. Umiwari Drive Plus. View seat Car available. Blue Luminous.
【Impression】I made an online Reservation in April. I don't know how crowded it is and I leave early in the morning, so I made a Reservation for a view sheet so I could sleep.
It was not so crowded on weekdays before the summer vacation from Hakodate, and 13,000 yen for the super sea discount was enough.
Smoothly line up your tickets at the waiting area with smart check-in. But I had to wait quite a while to get on board. The order of embarkation seems to change depending on the size of the car.
We checked in 50 minutes ago so we couldn't get to the building in time.
Accompanying guests can also board by car. There is only one male view sheet besides us. There are kiosks, but be careful as they are only open for a short time after departure. Here, I bought a sticker for the Tsugaru Strait Ferry.
There are also multiple microwave ovens and a freezer vending machine to replace the restaurant.
It was a strong wind that day, so we were able to get out on deck until we set sail, but then it was closed until we docked.
The disembarkation was not in the order of embarkation, and I was able to disembark early, perhaps because the place where I stopped was good.
Smartphones are almost within range.
【Previous stop】Night view on Mt. Hakodate
【Next stop】Yamauchi Maruyama ruins

It's sad that there's no restaurant on board the re-enrolled ship, but it looks like the kids are having fun with the modern microwave-cooking type.
Next time, I'll make a plan to go to Tomakomai with my pet
Donan will have to go through.
