Chance upon this on our way to the tram station. Great they put up a sign to inform tourist like us of the history of this.

Whilst transiting through Hakodate we were delighted to see the listing on trip advisor for the oldest electric pole in the country. As it was only 1.5km away and the temperature had risen to -12C, we really had no choice but to go and visit....More

This is an odd attraction compared with typical tourist attractions, but given that you will probably walk past it, you might as well stop and take a look. There is a small information sign detailing its history and significance. Not the most exciting attraction, but...More

Walked past by coincidence and saw the sign indicating this is the pole. It's just like any concrete pole and would have easily missed it. Nothing interesting here.

Unless you knew the pole was there you could walk past it without knowing. Not worth going out of your way to see it.

The people of Hakodate seem to be inordinately proud of having the oldest cement telegraph pole in Japan. Not sure why but they like it.

You may miss this pole if you didn't pay attention or read about it. I found it after reading the wordings on the pole. Nothing spectacular but part of history.

This is a struggle to find, it is not clearly signposted. Not that you need bother really; one for the concrete buffs basically.

I doubt that even die-hard history buffs would seek out this concrete electricity pole. Its claim to fame is that it was the first one to go up in Japan. I saw the pole listed on a map in a tourist area as an attraction...More
