The domestic terminal of New Chitose was chaotic, boiling hot (in February with everyone lugging snow gear around) and poorly managed.
There were no trolleys anywhere, and ANA check in staff were exceptionally slow and awful. I will do everything I can do avoid domestic transit here in future. I have flown out of the intentional terminal before and it was average.

Not many Airport will be considered as a tourists attraction and New Chitose is one!
Read and also watch from YouTube about the many shopping and leisure activities that one can enjoy. In our recent trip to Sapporo we made a Day Trip here. Using our JR card it took us about 30+ mins to reach here using the Hakodate Line. Stopping at the basement level we took to the higher levels for the fun!
There were indeed many shops with both Japanese/Hokkaido goodies and souvenirs. And there's such a crowd! We spend over 2 hours going thru the many shots and bought quire a lot.For lunch we had Ramen at one of the restaurants, separate Review.
Afterwhich we went to Royce Chocolate Museum too. And noted that they is also an onsen on the fourth floor that charges 1700 yen per entry

Can you imagine going to an international airport and found most of the restaurants are closed at 2 pm? That’s indeed what I experienced.
I was indeed bamboozled by such experience. Could that be local culture?

This is a very vibrant airport. The atmosphere is really lovely, with lots of shops selling local food and snacks. There are nice areas where you can sit and wait for your flight, or just walk around and try the snacks.

Visited on April 29th. It was during Golden Week, so it was certainly crowded, but not as crowded as I expected. There were probably not many customers leaving in the first three days. I was planning to have lunch before boarding the plane, but there was no line at the restaurant.

We arrived at the airport early thinking it would be crowded and wandered around. Many restaurants have no trouble killing time. Rather, it will be short. On the fourth floor is Oasis Park for movie theaters and hot spring facilities, on the third floor is Gourmet World for restaurants and food courts, and on the second floor is Shopping World for souvenirs and shopping. You can have fun for purposes other than flying.

New Chitose Airport is the gateway to Hokkaido. In the airport's terminal building, you'll find delicious food representative of Hokkaido scattered here and there, including the Hokkaido Ramen Dojo. In addition to ramen and sushi, there are also many popular sweets shops, so you can enjoy plenty of Hokkaido cuisine.
Aside from food, there are also mini theme parks with Doraemon and Royce, as well as hot spring facilities.

This is an incredibly fun and entertaining airport with everything from food to hot springs to movies!
Just looking at the incredibly large souvenir store on the second floor is fun, but above that there is Ramen Dojo, a place where you can enjoy a variety of ramen, as well as many other stores where you can enjoy shopping. There is even a hot spring facility like a health spa where you can stay for the day, so it's an amazing airport where you won't get bored even if you spend the whole day there.

New Chitose Airport is a great place to eat, buy souvenirs, and do anything else. I think it's a great airport where you can explore for an hour or two. There are many options for food, including sushi, ramen, western food, and local cuisine. There are also many souvenirs for sale. There are so many different types of souvenirs for sale that it's hard to choose. It's a great airport.

I don't have many opportunities to use this place, but it's always crowded. It was a normal weekend, not a long weekend, but it was still crowded. This is probably because there are too many souvenir shops on the departure lobby floor. There are stores selling goods on the departure lobby floor at Haneda, but there aren't as many as here, and most of them are retail stores that stock a wide range of products, with almost no stores directly operated by manufacturers.
