We drove from Yonago to Mihonoseki and the drive was scenic and without the many traffic lights that often hinder a smooth drive. The village looks pretty much untouched by modern times and has a few interesting temples/shrines. The lighthouse is only a short drive, but nothing spectecular.

Mihonoseki is a traditional fishing village in Shimane Prefecture and it's as though it's stuck in a time loop. Time passes by very slowly here so you can really immerse yourself. If you go, don't miss Miho Shrine and fresh grilled squid. If you want to find out more about this place and Lafcadio Hearn's impression of it, please check out... More

Do not expect anything strikingly picturesque but authenticity is guaranteed. And nowhere better than at Fukumakan, a ryokan nestled between the shrine and the... More

This head point has a small white lighthouse. This was made in 1898. Ocean blue, Sky blue, Forest green and Lighthouse white, these contrasts were very beautiful!! A black kite was circling freely high in the sky.

This is a good place to hang out and talk with the locals and enjoy the easy going way of seafood life. It's a little out of the way, but worth the trip if this is kind of Japan you're looking for. A very good place for views of the Sea of Japan, the Oki Islands, Daisen, and Nakaumi. Make... More
