The park is beautiful but the owls are so pitiful I think. Their talons are with ropes so they can't fly, they don't have freedom.

Indeed, the flowers were pretty but I really felt bad for the animals there... Some birds were isolated and locked in small individual cages indoors and they looked so bored or even depressed, I really felt sorry for them. And while all Japanese people found the penguin parade "cute", I personally found it awkward, they got the penguins dressed up with clownish costumes that made them look ridiculous, I mean come on, they are not dolls, for God's sake!
Not worth your money if you care about animals' living conditions and overall well-being.

You know about those YouTube/Facebook videos of penguins dressed up and walking around? THIS IS THE PLACE! Six years ago, we visited Matsue Vogel Park just as they were closing. We ran through it and thought it was amazing. They greet you with near floor to ceiling flowers! This time, we admired their new building, used our passports to get a discount, and made sure to have lots of time. You start with the most amazing really, really long and steep slidewalk. Our friends helped us to get to almost every "show" and I got to (pay to) have a bird of prey fly to my arm and get lots of photos together, find the koi with the happy face on it's head, take lots of pictures of dressed up penguins, (pay to) hold a penguin (because who knew it was on my bucket list), (pay to) get a bird to pick a fortune for my husband (it was good), and (pay to) feed turacos, toucans, and whatever that other bird was. The free bird shows were great. There were lots of flowers and animals to look at. At the end, we stopped for some soft cream (soft serve in many flavors). What an amazing day!

I was alone but definitely recommend for couple and family. But if you have small children, you must be careful. Because birds are flying free inside. They might scare. With small fee they will let you pet the exotic bird. Extensive walking involved. They do offer shuttle service. Foreign passport holder gets half off admission fee.

We went there by train and thought it is only a garden but to our suprise, it is rather large with escalators leading up the hill and has habitat of various birds and animals with interactive activities and wished we had more time.

The entrance leads to the garden which I find so refreshing with tons of flowers -growing in pots, hanging all over and floating in the moat. It was a hot summer and I feel cool immediately the minute we stepped into it.

The escalator leads up to the hill in the back where lots of birds live. The passage were all shaded and the habitats are all air-conditioned so its make a good place to escape the heat in the summer. There were these red small pelican type of birds to feed and they are so cute and kept pecking on the food in the palm.

There are eagles and large parrots and some fly following the instruction of a trainer where you can watch and the trainer might ask the birds to perform for you. I remembered seeing peguins as well.

I wished we can spend more time browsing the garden, tending the birds and resting at the restaurant surrounded by flowers. Its worth a visit and the place has large parking spaces and is easily accessible by train. However, the trains in the weekday is non- frequent and it would be wise to plan ahead.

This is a highlight. Laid out really nicely and lots of flowers and birds to see. It takes about 25minutes on the train or $40AU from the station. The train only comes once an hour on Sunday's.

The owl show is excellent! You will be able to see how the owl fly very closely!! The feeding experience is good! Only small amount of money can let you get close to the animals!! Worth the money!!

This place has a great variety of flowers and plants, and the park is a good place to go with family. I just feel sorry about the birds locked in the cage... but this is the big attraction of the place.

We stopped here on the way back to Matsue by train from Izuma Taisha shrine. With a foreign passport you can get a ticket discount. We paid 1,080 yen for adult and 1,020 yen for senior.
Vogel is German for bird so that is the attraction here - rare birds with wonderful flowers and trees thrown in. We arrived late - around 4:00 pm and there were few people around - so nice. On the cons side we missed the flying owls show (11:00 am and 15:00 pm) and the penguin stroll (10:30 am and14:00 pm).

The park is huge and takes about 1 hour to walk leisurely around. Don't miss feeding the Toucans buy hand!
