Fukuyama Castle shares the tragic fate of many castles in big cities that were preserved for posterity and survived the Meiji Restoration: it’s towering tenshukaku (main keep) was destroyed by allied aerial bombardment during the war. However, it was reconstructed as a museum in 1966. Besides which, two structures remain as originally built: the Sujigane Go’mon (Iron-reinforced Great Gate), and... More

The first time I had ever seen Fukuyama castle was in the train on the way to Hiroshima. After seeing the size of it I was determined to get back and explore the grounds. Firstly, it's a re-built castle as most Japanese castles are, but this one has some original secondary buildings which are very interesting. There are many displays... More

Saw Samurai swords and armour. Lots of stairs to climb. Great view from the top. Wish there were English signs and translations.

The castle is a replica, but I think it's a very good replica despite what others have said. It has several floors each with interesting Japanese historical artefacts. Unfortunately the information about the artefacts and the castle are in Japanese, but it doesn't take much imagination to figure out what's what. We'll worth a visit, assigns very picturesque. It's a... More

It is a nice castle to visit. If you are in the area might as well stop and see it. You can take pictures, see the grounds, the museum, and the top view in about one hour and only cost $2 to enter the castle.

Fukuyama station is one before Hiroshima station when you ride from Tokyo. I did not know what to think of it when I saw the castle from the train! It is right next to it. Beautiful. I googled mapped and confirmed it was actually a real castle, not made-up new thing. I just wanted to let people know that you... More

We choose to visit this castle because we saw it from the shinkansen train and we thought that it might be a good idea to stop by. We didn't regret making this decision. The entire experience took as less then an hour so it was perfect to do between two shinkansen trains. The view is nice and the castle is... More

The park is nice and the castle looks good from afar, however you can see that the replica is a bit sloppy as you get closer. We took two tickets anyway and went inside. The interior of the castle is what one could call a museum without a particular theme. It displays various items without any explanation in English, but... More

The five levels, six-storied castle was originally built in 1622 and then rebuilt with concrete, in 1966.The ishigaki stone walls seem a little sloppy compared to other castles, with many gaps in between the rocks. Fukuyama Castle is a fairly attractive looking castle, from the outside, but the same cannot be said from the inside. There is a pretty poor... More
