This is the dirtiest beach in Japan. Trash in the water and on the beach. I saw a used condom on the shore. And the view is of a couple of breakwaters. The surrounding park is ok, and I think it gets high marks for fireworks. But why go here when Kamakura and Shimoda are nearby?

There are a lot of Japanese people.
It’s good for family. The sea was smooth and calm.
I recommend to go there at night.

Nice atmosphere but amazing few people at the beach. Friendly but rather difficult to manage only with english. But as it said. Where it is a hearth there always will be room.

Nice beach with good space for kids.
Sand is a bit dark.
Beach is kept clean and have life guards in season. Many people come for surfing near by.
Many restaurants along side the main road.

Nice beach - a bit dirty compared to the rest of Japan. Lifeguard until 17:00 o’clock. Wave breakers makes it nice to swim at every time. There is a kids water fun park that looks really cool!

If you are visiting Atami be sure to get the YuYu bus to Sun Beach. You can sit on the grass under the jacaranda trees or on the sand or have a swim. This isn't an Australian beach so the sand isn't white and the water is not as clean as it could be but if you are desperate for a swim or just a wade, it's not a bad option.

We stayed in a hotel close by the beach and it was freezing that day. I guess it's a better deal in summer.... but in winter rain, it was pretty depressing. Not much going on at all and not many shops opening. Will give Atami a miss in fact if I ever go to Izu Peninsula again.
