We were hoping to see some sakura but the timing is not with us. Thought it might worth go up the castle for a walk but end up quite disappointed. Fantastic view from the top of the castel but that's it. The rest of the floors have some exhibition but not very well organised and some descriptions are only available... More

The castle is a poor reconstruction of what was perceived to be originally there. The original stone walls and moats which protect the area are fantastic and are in themselves the only original feature and are mind boggling in their own right.

This is a typical Japanese Castle reproduction with interesting museum contents such as armor and weapons, Japanese dolls and reproductions of Japanese prints including an adult only gallery of erotic art. The views from the various levels are scenic and lend themselves to photography. No gardens directly associated with this Castle.

As this is not a real castle it is basically a tourist attraction that doesn't really give you a lot for the money you paid for but REALLY tries to. It has an arcade, foot spa, an old-looking exhibition about castles and samurai which is not English friendly (and if you are interested in those themes Edo Tokyo museum offers... More

Long queue to get up to the "castle" which is a tourist attraction. We didn't pay to go inside. The car parking is highly organised though as all Japanese things are. Not worth the trip up unless you just want to have a view of the bay.

The castle by itself is not that special however it gives you a good panoramic view of the region. The castle itself has some interesting collections like the Edo period armours and swords, from the region also. It is a good combination to see, you may spend 1-2 hours looking around. There 's not that many attractions in Atami so... More

I visited the castle just because I stopped in Atami and was strolling around. If you want to get there from the train station, you can first walk to the beach (I think it took between 20 and 30 minutes), continue walking on the seaside boulevard (the castle will be clearly visible then) and take the gondola lift to the... So since we were in Atami so thought of visiting the Atami Castle. you need to walk on the slope to reach the castle so keep comfortable shoes while we have taken the ropeway which was a worth it view. and then we went to sex museum before hitting the Atami Castle. and for sure it is a better option... I'm sure you must have read a lot of reviews by now & the opinions voiced are true that it is not worth the visit. It was just built during the heydays to attract tourists. The Trick Art Museum next door is also another gimmick to pull the wool over your eyes, so don't bother paying the high entrance fees to... Nothing to see inside but the view outside and on the top balcony was great. We did the hop on hop off bus and this was one of the destinations. The exterior of the building was gorgeous. Not worth the price of admission for the inside unless you want shots from the top balcony.
