There is a torii gate along Nawate Street. The grounds are surrounded by trees and have a quiet and solemn atmosphere. This shrine enshrines four gods, and is called Yohashira Shrine. It gives off a feeling of great gratitude.
Many tourists and locals came to pray.

It's right next to Matsumoto Castle. It's also convenient for going to Nawate-dori and Naka-dori.
You can also get a temple seal.
The price is as you please! So if you don't have coins, it's hard to take out a 1000 yen note.

Take a walk from Matsumoto Station to Matsumoto Castle and visit here on your way.
When you cross the bridge over the Onna-Toba River, you see Nawate Street and beyond that, a torii appears. Yohashira Jinja (Four Pillar Shrine) was built in the Meiji period and is home to four deities.

Located in the city so it is easy to access. Just take a few minutes to look around when you are on the way to and from the Matsumoto Castle. It is next to Nawate Street or near Nakamachi Street.

This was my 2nd visit, and it was beautiful. We were there when the autumnal colours were doing their thing and as usual it was peaceful and calm. If you enjoy wandering around shrines, you'll like it, and since it's on the way to/from the Castle and off Nawate dori, you can't really miss it.

All the maple leaves were changing colour when we visited, and the shrine was a technicolour riot of beauty. It's definitely one of the most Instagrammable places in Japan.

I stopped by here on the way from Nawate-dori to Matsumoto-jo and was very glad that I did. It was full of life, autumnal colour and little kids for the Shichi-go-san (7-5-3 festival) all dressed up in their kimonos.
I spent probably around 30 mins here wandering and people watching. I was also able to get my goshuin-cho updated with the shrine stamp and freshly written caligraphy. Beautiful!

After visiting the busy Matsumoto Castle, it was wonderful to come to this quiet and peaceful shine. Perfect for capturing the autumn colours. And right next to the merchant street by the river. It was one of our highlights in Matsumoto.

It only took us around 10-15 minutes on foot from Matsumoto station to here. It was the first day of our trip, and when we came to this shrine, we realized we had come to Japan because of its atmosphere and unique culture. It was a pity that we arrived here late and could therefore not visit it thoroughly. However, there were still some people coming to pray even it was 6pm. If I come to Matsumoto again, I will definitely come here earlier.
