Went at night, was gorgeous. And well lit too and totally safe. Though, going in the day with more light to see everything clearly might be a better idea

Approaching the castle took our breaths away. Grand in its beauty, must see if in Nagano area. We happen to visit at dusk and were lucky to experience both, it’s day and night beauty.
